Retiring in a couple of months ( not by choice, business is closing down) and tbh I feel so worn out that I’m just going to stop working. DH in excellent job so no money issues, he works away Mon to Fri so just me and Ddog at home. He is 100% behind my choice.
I have plans to do the outside of house up, garden etc, and some inside painting and refreshing. Loads to get on with.
But… as it gets closer to the date, I’m suddenly feeling a bit “eeek!”
Any advice from retirees… like how do you plan your day, do you bother looking nice if you don’t have to, does your day just drift, did your sleep change etc etc.
Im almost 63, health is so-so, good days, bad days. Job involves being up very early, 4-30am then on my feet entire shift ( won’t miss that!!) but have cut my hours well back in recent couple of years.
All ideas and help gratefully received!

I’m currently housebound following an operation so my view is slightly skewed. I currently spend my morning sitting at the table reading the newspaper from cover to cover. Dog walker arrives, I have my first meal of the day. Dog returns. I do a spot of light housework then I sit down and attack the crosswords. Then I prepare my evening meal. Friends visit. District Nurse visits. My days pass.

Prior to my disability I walked the dog, shopped, saw friends, went for days out to places of interest, volunteered two afternoons a week at the Foodbank, volunteered full time with an online breed specific dog rescue. Basically just wafted and pleased myself.

Thank you. I read the papers online, haven’t had an actual paper for years. Can I ask what sort of meals you have, and at what time of day? My early early starts have skewed my body clock for years! I’m also aiming for a 10/10.30pm bedtime and an 8am getting up.

When I could walk I used to walk my dog at 10 ish, get home 11.30 ish then eat. Now I eat when the dog is picked up by the dog walker as he drives me mad when I’m eating. Noon ish. Scrambled egg and smoked salmon on toast or Greek yogurt with berries and granola usually. Tea is 6 ish. My favourite is a trout fillet with broccoli and new potatoes, or coronation chicken. Tonight I’ve had a big salad with prawns and avocado. I stick to two meals a day. Don’t sleep much at night. Listen to R4 all night and doze. So sometimes have a snooze in the afternoon.
