If your baby is/was/will be born in December, which would you prefer?

My very lovely hairdresser has just told me that after 4 years of trying, she is expecting her first baby. Due mid December.
After congratulating her, I said that I would crochet her a blanket for the baby, which she was delighted about. She says she prefers neutral colours, so I am probably going to go for something like Sage.
However, I am struggling to decide on yarn and style, so thought I would ask you lot what you might prefer.
Would you prefer a warm, squishy, fluffy blanket, probably in acrylic, or a thinner wrap style blanket that can be folded over, in a natural breathable fibre, such as a bamboo/cotton mix, or even merino wool?
And which would you use the longest, and keep for future babies?

Definitely cotton. I don’t love artificial fibres, and I’d want something washable. And for babies, I’d always prefer layers over a single big squashy thing (lovely as it is for an adult).

I had a December baby, and we kept the house warm so baby didn’t need crazy amounts of clothing. Then a wrap was easier for going out.

Lovely of you to do this!

I’d use washable wool, a lightish layer.

Thank you!

Crochet is my hobby, and I love to make things which will be used and appreciated!

Yes cotton. I also have a December baby. We lived in Northumberland at the time and that winter was very cold. I remember going outside the front to clear the snow away and I could feel the moisture on my face freezing. Thank goodness for central heating.

I had a mid December baby. A good friend knitted her a woollen blanket, it was so beautiful and I used it a lot, in her Moses basket and just to wrap her in. It was a small blanket in fine wool.
Synthetics look horrible really quickly, a natural fibre will stay looking lovely. My blanket is packed away now for future grandchildren.

Washable is non negotiable. I'd probably go with cotton, as it is the most versatile. I prefer natural fabrics, but some blends are more versatile and resistant, so wouldn't be dead set against it.

Not wool, too high maintenance.

I am normally all about the natural fibres, but my sister uses the Women’s Institute acrylic yarns for baby blankets - nice to work with, very washable, good colours and stay looking lovely for many many years.

I had a December baby and I knitted them a blanket in good-quality acrylic. I don't have a tumble dryer so cotton or bamboo wouldn't be suitable, they take far too long to dry. Wool's lovely but after having a carpet moth infestation I would avoid any 100% wool, maybe a wool/nylon blend would be less attractive to moths and would also be easier to wash. A DK sock yarn perhaps
