Train crash between Bedford and Luton

Hope everyone is okay but it looks serious. I wonder what caused it, you don’t hear of many train crashes these days.

Does anyone know anything about trains? I’m surprised a crash like this is even possible. I was under the impression that scheduling was pretty foolproof and didn’t really rely on the driver any more.

I heard about his on the radio as it was breaking... they made out that it was a full speed crash and loads of people will have died. 30 ambulances at the scene and lots of deaths expected.
But it sounds like it was a low speed impact. One person died. Still awful.

It’s you that’s making this about you with these kind of posts and trying to police what other people post

Really? You think drivers do nothing? Nuts.

It’s also nothing to do with scheduling at all.

Obviously they do a lot. But I thought the lines had various safeguards and failsafes that didn’t just rely on the driver.

They do, hence why this incident is rare, especially when you compare it to how many trains are running at any one time.

I agree, do shut up. People are allowed to feel shaken about things that happen nearby.

No, you with your holier than thou attitude, virtue signalling, can do what you said.

The only thing in poor taste on this thread is your post, which is one of the nastiest and most spiteful things I've read on MN in a very long time.

Anyway, judging by your username, pot/kettle.

Comefromaway · 20/06/2026 00:45

Somuchmore has just posted correcting someone’s grammar on a post about the death of a father.

that’s all we need to know about them.

SoMuchMoreThanJustaMum · 20/06/2026 00:49

I am appalled at how disrespectful some of you are being on this thread.

Someone has died in an awful accident, dozens more injured and all you want to do is talk about yourselves and weirdly try to pile on me because you don't like a little dose of reality?

Mumsnet truly gets weird late on a Friday night doesn't it? The prosecco and warm weather must have gone to your heads.

Just be respectful and do better!

"Just be respectful and do better"

Perhaps you need to take a dose of your own medicine, dearie.

Honestly this is one of those crazy threads, mumsnet so werid these days.

Comefromaway · 20/06/2026 01:04

You are the one who has ruined this thread. All the comments up until yours were very respectful. You hi-jacked it for your own purposes which is appalling.

You have said consistently horrible comments to other posters who have posted about their location to this accident.

You are berating people for making this about themselves but you are the one that keeps commenting.

@SoMuchMoreThanJustaMum should be thoroughly ashamed and definitely not a good Mum role model!

SeriaMau · 20/06/2026 01:21

Happyhappyzoozoo · 19/06/2026 23:44

Do we know for certain yet it was the driver who died? I know it seems likely but he would presumably have been able to see the collision coming and leave the cab? Although saying that I wonder if perhaps the driver has had some sort of medical episode and that has been the cause of the crash

Edited

I think trains go quite fast.

Pearlyb · 20/06/2026 01:55

The UK railway is one of the safest in the world, the industry is designed very much safety first. For example even office admin workers for train operators aren't allowed to have a Prosecco in the office at Christmas party, absolutely no alcohol in any office ever allowed. Doesn't matter if they work in marketing or operations, blanket rule for everyone. The rail industry works on a swiss cheese model where many things must have gone wrong simultaneously for this to happen. A horrible accident, thoughts are with all employees, impacted passengers and nearby community x
