Persistent spot on my nose that has not healed for a year

It has been there a year now. It looks like this crater thing when the scab has been knocked off and at other times it has a bloody scab on it.

I have tried every spot cream you can imagine and also those spot patches.

It isn't getting any bigger but just never clears up.

Photo has been uploaded but might take a while

Have you seen the GP? It could be something like a basal cell carcinoma, which would need treatment (either cream or removal).

smallchange · 19/06/2026 14:08

I haven't seen your photo but this is something to get checked out as it could be a basal cell carcinoma, which isn't nearly as dangerous as a melanoma but would need removed as it can grow and destroy the surrounding skin.

My family are prone to these so I've seen the aftermath of lots of operations and the cosmetic results are excellent so don't put off getting it seen to.

QuietLurker · 19/06/2026 14:12

Yes, do get this checked out in case it's a basal cell carcinoma. My DP had one a few years back and iirc the 'crater' is a feature of them. If it is that, they are very treatable, so don't panic.

Adding to the suggestions of see the GP. Better to get it checked out.

abracadabra1980 · 19/06/2026 14:13

Another saying get that checked.

tealandteal · 19/06/2026 14:14

Another to say see your GP.

Eyesopenwideawake · 19/06/2026 14:15

Get it checked. I had what I thought was a bite on my earlobe that refused to heal. Finally got it checked and it was a BCC. Quick op and it was gone.

Get it checked.

Shortandtothepoint · 19/06/2026 14:17

Definitely see your GP.

Newforspring · 19/06/2026 14:19

Had the stage before the stage before full blown bcc, saw a gp then derm, had a cream that burned it off.

like many things, the faster you have it seen the sooner and less dramatic to sort.

weirdzitonmynose · 19/06/2026 17:19

Oh bloody hell, I had better see the GP 😬 A BCC won't spread due to my inaction will it? If that is what it is?

A friend of mine had a BCC about 4 times the size of yours (it looks like his) removed a few years ago. He had had it for years. His was only on his nose. He was fine. But definitely make a doctor appointment.

TheOliveFinch · 19/06/2026 17:24

A BCC will slowly grow locally but not spread anywhere else it does look like it my DH has had two and ignored the first one for ages by had both removed successfully

Helloskeletonface · 19/06/2026 17:31

Bcc are very slow growing so don’t worry about not seeing to it earlier.

I have a similar spot on my nose which I ignored / tried every spot cream / picked at for a couple of years before I eventually saw the GP. They referred me to a dermatologist quickly who dismissed it very quickly as an old age related fibrous lump.

I still pick at it periodically just to show it who is boss ( of course if it changes I would visit the GP again )

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/06/2026 21:23

My Dad had a non healing patch , he kept saying "oh it gets rubbed by my glasses " or "I accidently scratched it" to explain the fact it was there for a year .
I don;t think he was worried abour BCC , probably had no idea what it was. More "Oh I don;t want to waste the Drs time"
I did convince him, he saw the Practice Nurse at his next check up and it was BCC ( or Rodent Ulcer as they called it )'
Referred , minor surgery , skin graft from his ear , healed beautifully .

RedRiverShore6 · 19/06/2026 21:30

I had one on my leg for a few years. They just get bigger but because I left mine it needed a bigger incision than if I had gone earlier so best go now as it will be an easier fix if needed

echt · 19/06/2026 23:28

I've had a skin cancer, also on the nose. All good now, though it was not BCC, something more serious. Any non-healing lesion needs checking out.
When I have my annual whole body check, if the dermatologist sees anything like a recent scab anywhere, he asks me how long I've had it and how I got it.

Definitely see your GP as soon as you can.

weirdzitonmynose · 20/06/2026 08:22

Thanks so much everyone and thanks for the positive stories too.
I have managed to book an appointment with the GP for Tuesday. I will let you know what happens!

Morning! I have just seen the GP and she suspects it is a BCC. I have been referred to the 'skin lesion clinic' to have photos of it, and from there, they will send me on the correct pathway for treatment.
Thanks so much for your advice everyone.

TheOliveFinch · 23/06/2026 12:26

Good news they are easily treated

Ilovemyshed · 23/06/2026 12:38

My husband had a lesion on his nose like that, scab over then reappear. He went to the doc who referred him as a suspected bcc. Turned out to be a piece of bathroom tile that had flicked up when he was cutting them LOL.

Better to get it checked though and a bcc isn’t too bad, is a squama cell you don’t want.
