Holiday suggestions please - things to do near Liskeard in Cornwall.

Hi - this is my annual holiday recommendation request thread for the MN hive mind. I'm after ideas for places to go and things to do in Cornwall in early July for two fifty-somethings, our 19-year-old DS, and our dog. We're staying near Liskeard but will have a car and don't mind a bit of a drive. We've been to Cornwall before, when DS was much younger, and we know we definitely want to do the Lost Gardens of Heligan again. We've done the Eden Project and will probably not do that again, much as we enjoyed it, as our dog isn't a big fan of crowded places. I'm hoping to do Tintagel one day as well. If anyone has any other suggestions for lovely dog-friendly walks and places to visit, I would be so grateful. Not just beaches - woods, gardens etc. as well, especially places that are a bit off the beaten track and won't be too rammed. DS is a big motorsport fan and will probably want to go karting or similar, and he likes old/vintage cars. We would also be grateful for recommendations for dog-friendly vegetarian places to eat. Thank you!

Not classic vege as it's heavily BBQ but they have a small vegetarian menu - Inkies Smokehouse is quite special, next to Golitha Falls. They don't have a website, only a Fb page: https://www.facebook.com/share/1BUBbxqbFK/

Also Foreign Muck in Saltash (not for dogs though) is great.

Plymouth market has lots of fantastic food options these days, the main market is dog friendly. We love the Thai food and Korean food but there's a lot of choice.

Depending on your dates:

Obv a trip to Trago is required, but go to the one at Newton Abbot (Janner Disneyland).

Have a look at the Minack Theatre - a bit of a drive but it's amazing. Pre book tickets for a visit. Dog allowed in the day time but not for any shows.

If you are thrill seekers I think Adrenaline Quarry is over that way. We went a couple of years ago - big zipwire, massive swing over the quarry, inflatable water park etc.

Golitha Falls mentioned by pp is lovely and can definitely walk the dog there.

If you like National Trust places then Lanhydrock is lovely - have grounds for dogs and cycle tracks and think you can hire bikes.

Cardinham Woods near Bodmin (but just off Liskeard Road) is great for dog walks and has lovely cafe - pretty sure they do veggie and vegan food. Can get quite busy though if its a nice day.

Lanhydrock NT. Try the coastal path - Pentire? Have a look at St Neots church - some great medieval glass and the villages around Bodmin tend to be quiet for walks. Port Eliot and Antony - check
openings for grounds. Check for farmers markets and festivals. Beach walks at St Enodoc church and the Camel Trail - a flat and easy walk! Bodmin railway - check timetable.

Antony is great, but NT so doubt your dog would be allowed in the garden, just the grounds. Cotehele and Calstock is also good for dog walks. Tavistock is the nicest small town fairly close, and is good for food shopping. Tamar Trails is good for dogs, but the cafe is closed -- unless it's reopened very recently.

Looe, Portwrinkle, Downderry and Cawsand are the closest beaches, but check as many Cornish bathing beaches are off-limits for dogs in high summer.

Fantastic - thank you all! DS has decided that we are definitely going to Adrenaline Quarry (I'll mind the coats! 😱) and I'll get a Google map going tomorrow with all the other suggestions. Keep 'em coming though! 😊

If you’re runners you can now park run at heligan which gets you in for free

DilemmaDelilah · 18/06/2026 11:07

The Story of Emily is near Liskeard - well worth a visit.

Brilliant - thanks, both!

Golitha Falls definitely.

I'd also do a moors walk, park at Minions and do a circular walk via the Hurlers and the Cheesewring. Lots of history along the way.

Your DS might enjoy the Giant Slip n Slide at Winnards Perch - depending on how much of a cool 19 yr off he is 😀

MPforTitipu · 18/06/2026 12:37

In the Tintagel area there are a couple of lovely walks from the main road. Coastwards through Rocky Valley or inland through St Nectan's Glen up to the kieve (waterfall).
