Does anyone use a prepared meal delivery service like Prep Kitchen or Frive?

Does anyone use a prepared meal delivery service like Field Doctor, Prep Kitchen or Frive? If so I’m interested in your experience.

I have a very intense period coming up at work and fitting in lunch will be a challenge. While I sometimes make enough dinner for there to be leftovers the next day, it’s not always possible. Plus I’ve always struggled with lunch ideas tbh.
I’m interested in these services as a way to keep having a healthy lunch, but ready super quick. The meals are either frozen or
fresh and can be put in the microwave. It would be a temporary thing until the busy period passes and I’ll have a bit more time again.
Dinner is not too much of an issue as DH can take charge of it.

If anyone has used them please tell me your thoughts!

I think I used Frive when it was known by a previous name - Lion’s Something. I really liked the meals, there was a decent choice and they were fairly healthy. Went for that company as they were all or mostly gluten free, which ruled out most others.

I use Mcdelivery

Ive used Frive after a recommendation on here. It got me through a few busy weeks. I did need to add some extra veg to the meals but I liked them.

I’ve used Field Doctor. Really healthy and easy to filter by diet type/health goal. I don’t really love the food, but it makes sure I eat something healthy and filling for lunch

🤣

Surely they are just ready meals? Why not buy from the supermarket?

CheeryOchreCat · 16/06/2026 22:31

Thanks everyone for your comments.

@hahabahbag I thought about this too but even the ‘healthy’ supermarket ready meals don’t really stack up against what many of these companies offer, in terms of portions of veg, protein etc., not to mention control of salt levels etc.

Dp buys frive they are quite tasty and healthy I would recommend. Personally I would rather cook than use them all the time but they are healthier than supermarket alternatives.

I’ve tried Field Doctor but unfortunately, I didn’t like the meals at all.

I was going to order from prep kitchen but I looked at some reviews on tiktok and while the people were quite complimentary about the food, it looked awful and it put me off ordering. I'm also aware people being paid/given free products are usually complimentary about the products they're reviewing, I really just wanted to see the food delivered rather than on their website so I wasn't inspired. I'm going to look at frive, I hadn't heard of it before.

I use Simmer every few weeks, very happily. I’d say that after a while the meals can get a bit samey and you must remember to amend/cancel the order by a certain point in the week otherwise you’ll have more deliveries than you need, but I find them tasty, healthy and good quality.

Say if you want a discount code OP, I’m sure I have one.

SixtySevenLabubus · 17/06/2026 05:52

I used Frive once. I’m a vegetarian and I sledged only veggie meals, yet 2/5 meals they sent me were meat! They wouldn’t refund me either!

I don't know how much the meals you're looking at but M&S do two ranges called High Protein and Nutrient Dense, which are £6/7 each that are just meat or fish with vegetables, grains, pulses and spices. They're really nice and all microwave in a few minutes. Most freeze fine even if it says don't freeze. That's what I would get.

OriginalSkang · 17/06/2026 07:04

I liked Frive. I also tried prep kitchen and another one I can't remember, but definitely preferred Frive

sashh · 17/06/2026 07:17

I'm just looking at the Frive website and it keeps telling me the meals are 'nutritionist approved' which makes me think they are not honest. The word 'nutritionist' has no meaning in the UK.

I can call myself a nutritionist and tell you that McDonalds three times a day is the best thing to eat.

OK OP this is a bit 'out there' but my local council will deliver meals on wheels to any one who asks. Maybe yours does the same.

Have you considered doing the home made version of a pot noodle? You pack noodles and veg / cooked meats and seasoning in a jar, onlie they all use a posh kilner type jar with a lid but a flask works just as well.

Obviously you would want the same thing every day but they can be as healthy as anything.
