Big blisters all over feet

I’ve just returned from 2 weeks in Cyprus. On the last few days, I noticed I was getting blisters on my toes, which then progress to get bigger and more of them. They are very sore. It is not down to any shoes rubbing on them and I’ve never experienced anything like this before. I’m just assuming that they are possibly caused by sunburn and me not putting enough on my toes. I regularly apply and never burn anywhere else but possibly haven’t been careful enough on this area which is obviously a massive lesson to myself. I’m struggling to get shoes on and if they are touched at all or knocked even slightly (2 very young kids) then the pain is really awful. Just wondering if anybody’s experienced this before or has any advice what I can do? Sorry for gross pic! The one that has already scabbed is because someone knocked into me while we were away and popped it 😱

Could it be an allergic reaction or chemical burn from floor or pool chemicals perhaps if not sunburn?
i would soak in cool water and see if antihistamine helps. Maybe consider seeing a pharmacist or nurse practitioner at your gp or walk in centre?

I'd pop them all with a sterile needle and let the air get to them as much as possible. It's the quickest way to start the healing process. Make sure to keep your toes clean and bathe with hot salty water regularly.

It could possibly be, I really don’t know to be honest! Really never had anything like it and don’t usually have allergic reactions. I will not have the chance to get to the pharmacy until Thursday due to work but was thinking I may do that. My partner did suggest popping them but it says online never to pop blisters 😩

They look terribly sore. The advice isn’t to pop them but you must be in agony. I’m never an advocate for popping them but I think I would in your situation. The only problem with that is you’re going to be left with open sores. As someone else upthread said let the air get at them to dry them out as much as possible, I hope you don’t need to wear shoes at work as that’s going to be really painful.

managingexpectations · 15/06/2026 23:38

Ouch, they look incredibly sore. Could be sunburn but it’s strange it’s in a line and only over your toes.
maybe it’s a chemical burn from a cleaning product or something.
Take antihistamine incase it’s a read room to something and see a pharmacist for advice treating them.
I’d be tempted to pop them to relieve the pressure and then keep them clean and covered but that’s probably not the correct advice at all.

Compeed blister plasters if you have to wear shoes.

igoldy · 16/06/2026 00:00

Thanks all I don’t think I’m brave enough to pop them myself as they are so painful so would need DP to do it. There is no chance of me getting my work shoes on so I’m just going to wear some black sliders, I’m sure they will understand and I don’t see many people either at work.

I had something like this on the soles and edge of my feet. Turned out to be some kind if excema if I remember rightly.

I think the GP said that it was stress related.

ForAzureSeal · 16/06/2026 00:09

I just watched an episode of the Pitt where someone had a rash like that it was some kind of reaction between the sun and limes! You didn't get lime squirted on your toes in Cyprus?! I would go to pharmacist tomorrow.

DysmalRadius · 16/06/2026 00:10

I've had pompholyx eczema which causes blisters but I've never had big ones like that - they tend to be small and quite hard and itchy whenever I've had them.

Those look like burns or a reaction to something you poor thing - I'd agree that a pharmacist is probably your first port of call as they might be able to recommend something to calm them down!

Eastendwitches · 16/06/2026 00:37

My blisters were big like the OP's ones. Had a few small ones but most were fairly big.

TheBloomingDahlia · 16/06/2026 00:48

I’ve had some like this on the soles of my feet, they feel horrible until they pop and then very sore with the raw skin! You aren’t supposed to pop them, but you’re also not supposed to squeeze spots but most people do 🙈. I would buy some blister plasters, they draw the liquid out and protect the raw skin underneath so you can still wear shoes and walk

Inthemane · 16/06/2026 01:01

Did you have your nails done in a salon before you went? Or share swimming pool/jacuzzi? It could be a bacterial infection such as impetigo.

Eideann · 16/06/2026 01:17

You poor thing @igoldy they definitely look like sunburned toes, hence the blisters.

Do not pop, try some aloe after sun lotion for relief.

Hope you enjoyed your holiday though 😎
