I've got those horrible cellilute legs. Nothing fits. Bra is too small etc. Hate my body.

Finding something I could stick to and not being stressed.

Stress puts the weight straight on which isn’t terribly helpful with family life…

I use my Apple Watch and the free version of My Fitness Pal to ensure I’m in a calories deficit every day. Even if it’s only a 100 calories.

The weight loss has been slow and steady. I burn roughly 1700 calories a day so as long as I eat 1500 - 1600 I lose. Not a lot but still lose.

I’ve been doing this since January and have lost a stone. It’s been frustratingly slow but I’m not prepared to starve myself.

At the weekend I have chocolate and alcohol so I’m not always in a deficit. But will be back on it on Monday.

This is what’s worked for me. I don’t follow any diet i just use MFP to track what I eat and it’s not that onerous. I’m not always exact with the portions but I do track what I eat.

One of my friends joined Slimming World and started losing weight. She was very positive about it and so I joined and have lost 15lbs in about 4~5 months. I really enjoy going each week and have learnt a new way of eating. There is a lady in my group who has lost 10 stone in about 2 years!

Looking after my elderly father.

It was so much harder lugging the extra weight around and I also realised that I didn't want to lose my independence as I got older and have to rely on someone to look after me. It was time to lose weight and get fit.

Stopping drinking
Eating right - chicken, fish, veg
Exercising properly - running, weight training and Pilates

Calculating your cutting calories on a TDEE calculator and strictly counting calories is the only way really so a reduction in food intake, focusing on protein and fiber and cutting upf.

Morepositivemum · 14/06/2026 22:30

looking at what shit I ate (tons of sandwiches, cereals, fizzy drinks), and halfing, and adding raw veg as snacks and drinking water daily. Only snacking three nights a week instead of seven!

Low carb is the only think that works for me

When I was very very big I started on the 5:2 diet initially. Think I did that for about 4/5 months and dropped 4 stone so it was FAST. The final 3 stone was a bit slower once I’d stopped the 5:2, maybe 7/8 months but within a year I’d dropped 7 stone and was back to a healthy BMI. Tracking calories on MFP helps and obviously exercise - I’m into running for mental health as much as physical.

Exercising and intermittent fasting.

I'm an emotional eater (working on it!) so often just relying on a calorie deficit based on my normal activity levels just didn't work. I haven't added in anything crazy, just a couple of swims a week, one session of strength training and making the mindful decision to walk instead of drive. It helps.

As for "fasting" (it feels ridiculous calling it that to me, I do ) I eat dinner with the kids at 4.30/5pm, if I want a sweet treat I have it when they go to bed to read at around 6.45pm and then 'fast' 7pm-10am. It stops my evening munching (which are always my worst choices), but also means I'm really hungry by the time I can eat in the morning so I don't skip breakfast. It works for me. It's slow going because I'm not strictly calorie counting but it is trending down.

Going on mounjaro is the only thing that has worked for me since I hit my 40s.

KnottyKnitting · 15/06/2026 13:58

Finding an exercise that I really enjoy and following a way of eating that was slow weight loss but not too restrictive.

Weighing my food and tracking calories on app on my phone

Getting diagnosed with type 2 diabetes two years ago. My first long overdue diet aged 56.

WeddingInvitation · 15/06/2026 14:06

I just took it slowly and started eating more protein, fibre, veg and beans/lentils. I lost a stone and a half in a year without it seeming like a chore. Eggs or porridge for breakfast, beany soup or salad for lunch. Something like salmon stirfy with noodles or brown rice for dinner.

I stopped snacking at work, having cheese and biscuits after dinner, eating something as soon as I got in from work - unless it was a bit of fruit.

I stopped drinking unless there was a good reason for it - like being out with friends. So really no mid week drinking.

I also joined a gym - so I'm a lot stronger, do weights - but I don't think that made much difference weight wise.

I've still another stone to lose - so am going to cut down on portion sizes and also walk more (I like walking).

mathanxiety · 15/06/2026 14:24

I did the same as @SinicalMe

MFP kept me on track.
