Coolest time to go to Chamonix between now and August?!

Just unexpectedly found out a family member who lives remotely on the other side of the world will be in Chamonix for three months this summer (it's impossible for us to ever go and see her due to my health, and the long, complicated journey to hers). It seems such a shame not to go and see her (although she will be coming over here for a short time too). But is there any time between now and August that it won't be insanely hot? Am I just kidding myself that we might be able to enjoy France at this time of year as two pale skinned northerners? Would a last minute trip if weather forecasts were predicting cooler weather at a certain time be a feasible option? I went to Chamonix on a school trip many years ago and I would love to go back but DP has only been to Europe once decades ago and I don't want his first trip since then to be awful!

I don’t think anyone will be disappointed by Chamonix, it’s beautiful. Also, have a trip to Annecy, an hour away, another beautiful part of the world.

i’ve just looked up July’s weather and it says up to 28 so no different to the UK. We’ve been in the summer with the kids, and it’s fine.

It'll be fine. If it gets a bit too hot, get up the mountains and it'll soon get cooler!

Been many times.
Can get hot in Chamonix, but not insanely so. As it's mountainous there's also the risk of fog and rain, even in summer months. Weather forecasting is very localised - so choose a French one rather than the Met office - try this one https://en.chamonix.com/weather

It is a stunningly beautiful part of the world and well worth a visit. It does get very busy - there's the world championship climbing event 10-12 July and then they have a massive 14th July celebration too so I would imagine accommodation would be difficult to get and expensive.

Book your trip up the Aiguille de Midi - again gets booked up early.

Even though the town itself can be busy, it's very easy to get away from the crowds - up the valley to Argentiere, down the valley to Les Houches. And there are some great day trips to Saint Gervais and through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Courmayer, and there are some waterfalls I can't remember the name of which are worth a visit too. Annecy is wonderful too.

I also find the heat there very different to here. I go to a little village where it's often 34° & lovely, when it's 34° here I hate it.

@DPotter hs given some really good advice/suggestions

i hope you go & have a fabulous time!
