Rough daily budget for 2 in Europe?

I know it's a how long is a peice of string question but I'm just after a rough idea. We're more street food than restaurant people and we're generally tucked up in bed by 10.

We will have booked most tickets in advance so it's really just food and drink, general incidentals (like bus fair) and random unplanned for stuff.

This holiday is going to be financially tight now so I'm trying to work out a realistic budget. On the other hand it's the last holiday for a while so I don't want to have to count every penny iyswim.

2 people spending 11 days in Amstadam, Germany, Austria and Brussels. Unfortunately Austria (which I understand to be very expensive) is the last part.

I have looked online but for example one site says that the average traveller spends £100 per day on food in Austria which seems excessive?

Amsterdam - There’s a Jambo supermarket close to the train station on the main road up into the shopping area - dd said they did the best olive rolls ever. They have a microwave after the tills so you can buy something and heat up.

it really depends how big an eater you are but £100 for both of you is totally doable given no alcohol

Exactly - a week more like

I don’t understand…a week?

Anyone thinking that you will struggle for two people to eat in Europe for £100 a day is just loopy.

you can spend way more than that but that’s a choice not a necessity

I just think dinner alone will probably cost 50-60. Maybe Im wrong. Thats about 115euro so it might work I suppose. Pushing it imo though

Of course it all depends on what you're going to eat, and where, but prices in Austria are not so unreasonable. Unless you're in the heart of Vienna at a posh restaurant or hotel, prices are on a par with most European cities. Cheap options in mountain huts or small family-run restaurants:
Pizza: €12 - €17
Beer or wine: €5 - €6
Schnitzel €17

But if you want to, it's easy to pay €35 or more for a steak or for something fancy in a restaurant with white tablecloths and waiters in uniforms. Coffee is expensive - €5 a cup as a minimum.

If you're hiking it is possible to buy big filled rolls from most supermarkets and bakeries for €3 - €4. If you're self-catering, beer is only 60 cents for 500ml and a decent bottle of wine can be found for €5 - €6. Own brand sodas cost 50 cents a bottle - Coca cola costs double. Note that some hotels allow you to make (or buy) a lunch pack from the breakfast buffet.

We spent £100-150 each, per day, on 2 recent trips, but that included wine and cocktails.

I have travelled widely around Europe for decades. The reality is that there are supermarkets, normal non-fancy, non-touristy / insta cafes & bakeries, local food markets, local bars & restaurants & fast food outlets everywhere. Shop where the locals shop. Eat with the ordinary working class locals where they eat, and eat what they eat. Even in Paris, Vienna, Munich etc you will be fine.

The main exceptions are Switzerland & Norway which really are unavoidably very expensive due to their exceptionally strong currencies.

£100 a day is sensible, but you could do it for less if you scrimp.

Amsterdam has these little vending machine food places, they're very cheap and novelty. I think the chain is called FEBO. Most items are less than €3 there. Lots of street sellers doing chips and mayo too or kapsalon which is chips topped with schwara, cheese and salad - very delicious! Steer clear of the tourist traps doing the big topped donuts and waffles, they look impressive but are usually dry and incredibly over priced.
