Just that have chronic hip pain...Im 40s been told too young for hip replacement consultant is very dismissive but it keeps popping out and in agony.

Researched PRP treatment and many people get relief from it, could help so anythinks worth a try. Has anyone had this on the NHS?

My specialist ortho nhs hospital does not offer them - I am hoping they will at some point. Surgery has been ruled out for me at the moment but I do get three or four steroid and local anaesthetic hip injections per year - have you tried them?

DH41 had physio for 12m, then cortisone injection 9m ago, just had his pre-op for total replacement - awaiting date, he is on priority list. His is arthritis. All NHS. So you're definitely not too young. Push for xrays to see if yours are worsening, if they are despite physio thats when you move along the chain.

I’ve had PRP in both elbows, and I see the same specialist doctor for hip pain (I’m in the US so it’s a Sports Medicine doctor). He’s never mentioned PRP for my hip pain. I have had a steroid shot which was like magic for several months, as well as physio, and I see a personal trainer.

My second PRP shot was so painful I was in shock, nauseous, shaking for hours. Tramadol did nothing for it. I’ve given birth without pain relief and that was much easier. So I’d be nervous about having more PRP shots tbh.

@Eggybreadwithnuts they do briefly help but they are combined with weekly pain patches and physio. If you feel that your hip is unstable ( rather than just arthritic) it may be worth another conversation about why they don't recommend a replacement now (as the replacement can be more unstable than the original ). It may be that while your consultant was dismissive and didn't take the time to explain the logic behind their decision on whether to operate, that their decision was not just age related.Mine was very forthright and said it was better to hobble

@Eggybreadwithnuts I am sorry to hear that. I don't have EDS but similar subluxations. I have tried having had the hip reshaped but that didn't work and I am told that replacing the hip increases the chances of subluxing and dislocations. When I asked about PRP I did not really get an answer as to why a specialist ortho hospital do not offer them - I am willing to try anything
