Oh my god PF is so painful! It’s only in my right foot, and the GP has advised that I self-refer myself to physio which I’ve done but haven’t heard back and it’s been over a week.

Is there anything I can do to help / fix it?

Ouch!

Have you tried massage? There’s loads of helpful videos on YouTube if you’d like to try it yourself.

AplineDaisies · 10/06/2026 23:49

You need to wear supportive shoes. Like Ecco ones. Essential.

Wasywasydoodah · 10/06/2026 23:49

it getting the shoes that helped me most. You want a slight heel, arch support, cushioning. Nothing that stresses the foot like sliders. Mostly they’re quite ugly…

I had a steroid injection. It worked almost immediately. I’d been in agony for months

Different things help different people.

none of the stretching, rolling cold drink cans or tennis balls, none of the inserts/supports, orthopaedic specialist stuff.

sketchers 'go walk' was my fix.

Birkenstocks sort it for me.

Acupuncture cured mine after weeks of pain . I did all the usual but nothing worked . It was offered to me by a podiatrist. Four large needles into my foot . Hurt like hell each time but within minutes felt a tingling . Went home rested . Next morning it was gone

DH has had this a couple of times. He wears insoles now to support his arch in all his shoes, even his slippers and wellies. Has been fine since.

Mumtobabyhavoc · Yesterday 04:38

You Tube has tonnes of videos by physios and Google has lots of info. I had to research this before. Try, What is ... and How to treat ... as your query lines

Harpsichord23 · Yesterday 04:43

I bought more and more expensive insoles…
eventually cured it by paying private to see a ‘rolfer’

I had it when overweight, I guess the extra weight was causing pressure. I lost weight, most importantly started working out and it disappeared. I had to wear shoes constantly, even just to get out of bed to go to the loo or whatever. Usually Birkenstocks.

Walk around with those toe separators used to apply nail polish - at least ten mins a day - quickly cured it for me after months of pain.

WeddingInvitation · Yesterday 07:14

It does eventually go for most people. A tip from here was to draw the slpahabet with my feet before getting up in the morning and going to sleep. Do the stretches and wear supportive shoes and slippers all the time. It can be linked to weight or perimenopause…..

It's so painful OP.

You should Google the exercises that you need to do for Plantar fasciitis.
They are quite simple and really effective.

And yes wearing supportive footwear is essential.

watch and follow the exercises.

it will be a long road, but exercises really help.

I have a hard, spiky massage ball which is absolute agony to roll under my foot but it works.

MrsJMJ · Yesterday 07:31

I saw a podiatrist for mine and he said there was a big rise of cases after covid as a lot more people were not wearing shoes. He recommended wearing shoes all the time. As pp said, even nipping to the loo in the night I wear supportive slippers ( hotter ones) Also going on HRT helped. I am fine now but don't take it for granted, and only rarely do I not wear shoes or slippers.
@WellINeverKnewThat1 and fellow sufferers you have my sympathy. It's horrible!

beigetriangle · Yesterday 07:39

wrt spiky massage balls - dryer balls are perfect for that.

Livedandlearned · Yesterday 07:40

Dr Berg on YouTube taught me stretching that fixed it for me for good

GameOfJones · Yesterday 07:54

Mine was absolutely awful but it did eventually go. Do not ever go barefoot. I swore by Crocs which I wore permanently in the house as slippers.....even in the shower as my feet were so painful. Get arch support insoles for your other shoes.

I tried other stuff....even sleeping with my foot in a brace for a while but I think it was time and keeping my feet permanently supported in footwear that helped.

It's been gone now for a couple of years and I can walk barefoot but almost never do now. I still wear Crocs around the house and have insoles in my shoes or buy arch supporting shoes like Skechers arch fit or Birkenstocks. I never, ever want it again so you have my sympathy but it does eventually go.

It’s so painful, like a knife in your foot.

My method seemed to work, but is probably both the right one. I continued running 5km on the treadmill but took my husband’s strong Naproxen beforehand. After a couple of weeks, it had gone.

tilypu · Yesterday 08:01

I agree with a lot of the above - arch support insoles and stretching really helped me. I also used ibuprofen gel on the soles and heels of my feet, as it is anti-inflammatory, and plantar fascitis is inflammation of the fascia

OrigamiOwls · Yesterday 08:18

It seems there's no one size fits all cure for PF. I'd tried everything...insoles, stretches, rolling cans under my foot. I bought a foot massage from Amazon and that did the trick for me

Jane143 · Yesterday 08:21

Sketchers trainers are great for PF
