To take out a personal credit card in my name, to pay for company goods??

I have been asked by my work (a community shop in a village - run mostly by volunteers, but with paid daily management - including me) to take out a personal credit card. I would use this to pay for food orders etc for the shop. And they will pay it off each month. Maybe spending £500 - £1000 a month.
This is because the committee member in charge of finance, says the bank will only issue committee / board members with debit / credit cards - none of which seem to work for paying for goods online (we have tried - the pin doesn't work, and it doesn't even send an authorization code).
My husband says this is ridiculous - and has put his foot down, saying it effects him / our family as well (ie: if anything goes wrong).
For background - the committee are all very well-off retired people, who probably don't understand that it's not quite as easy for me financially! So it's not them trying to pull a fast one, and I am positive I would not be left out of pocket, but I am worried it might effect my credit rating. As well as just not being very professional!
But what justification do I give them for not doing this? Without looking difficult? (And I know I have every right just to say no! But I don't want to offend anyone - and they all think this is a brilliant idea that will solve the issues we are having).

Ooh no,no no no. Charity regs would also point against this as being a good idea. Also,if its such a good idea, why doesn't one of them do it?!

Can these well-off people not get use their own personal credit cards? Something is not quite right about this request. Either they don't respect you, don't care if you're made personally liable, or there's something not ok about their finances.
Absolutely do not do this.

Making it work in the same way every other business works does not sound like it should be your problem

It's a long shot but does the card just need to be used with it's pin in a real chip and pin machine first. My replacement Barclaycard did. Some Amazon things worked fine and others just kept spouting out about a payment revision being needed. When I went to the osteopath his touch machine refused it so he got out the old fashioned one that you stick it in and type the pin. Suddenly all the Amazon things worked too.
Otherwise, I agree with everyone else. Glad you're going to say No.

the local food bank have a credit card I know that as my neighbour volunteers there and if they are short of a particular item eg no beans they go and buy a load of them and then it’s paid by the monthly donations they receive every month
if they have charitable status they have a bank account surely and can get one fRon the bank

You say no and get the committee to speak to the bank so they learn how to use the cards properly. Of course they will work for what you are saying they are needed if used properly.
