Want to dye my old wedding dress so my dd can wear it for a ball
I don't mind if it gets ruined
So willing to take a change on it
It's 100percent silk

I dyed a silk shirt and it came out really well. I used an acid dye if that helps.

I have successfully dyed silk shirt with the Dylon put in washing machine ones

Yes it worked well BUT it turned out that the thread used was polyester not silk which meant the dye didn’t take to it, resulting in high contrast hems.

A friend of mine wore a beautiful silk wedding dress and had it dyed afterwards. Unfortunately some parts of it were not silk, so the effect was not quite as planned.
My only advice would be to have anything done by professionals.

I'm not fussed about it bring perfect because it's just taking up space, I wouldn't want to spend much on getting it done professionally
No idea how much it costs

It does say on the machine dyes that you can't use them on silk, it that does seem the most simple

The brand was Dharma.

Is the dress machine-washable? I’ve dyed clothes in buckets, but I wouldn’t want to have to manage a large, heavy, sopping-wet dress in the bath. The weight of the wet fabric could rip the dress.

I have dyed silk shirts, but the thread has never taken the dye, so it’s best to use a colour that will look good with the original colour thread. Eg I dyed a turquoise shirt dark blue, and a burgundy shirt purple. If your dress is white, a cool pastel might work. If it’s ivory, you could go for a warmer, yellower tone. But shirts are cheaper than a wedding dress - maybe a wedding dress would have been sewn with silk thread?

I’m pretty sure I used Dylon. Perhaps they have a range specifically for silk?

Dylan dona machine all in one
but it says it’s not suitable for silk
however people have used it on silk and it worked for them
seems abit of hit and miss

they do do a silk range but it’s a hand dye job so would have to be in a big tub in the garden

tbh there’s not much to lose as I’m never gonna wear it again and it’s wasting space
so tempted to just give it a go
worse case it’s shit and we bin it
and then no need to store it
