How much ££ to contribute?

My dd(16) has been invited on a 10-day family holiday by her friend. They’ll be driving across France to Spain in their motor home and will be sleeping in that / camping.

We offered to contribute something towards the trip and the parents thanked us, and mentioned our DD going with won’t involve much extra costs.

What amount would be right to contribute? We’ll also give DD spending money to take with her in cash, of course.

I'd load a card for her and give some cash in smaller bills. I think €500 to the family as well.

€500?! For what? They will have to pay tolls and camp fees for sure, but they’d have to do that anyway. Food is really the only extra expense plus any entry fees. I think €200 to the family is enough, and €250 to your DD for additional expenses. Though I’d try and get a definite figure from them if possible.
My son (then 16) went with his girlfriend and father to their house in Spain. I offered and assumed I’d at least be paying for his flights. In the end they just wanted him to have some spending money so he went off with €200 but didn’t spend anything like that.

Oh and get her a Monzo card and only a small amount of cash.

Good idea on loading up a card .
i was thinking around £250 to the parents so this sounds about right

That's very generous. I wouldn't expect anything if we took a friend because there is no extra cost really except food and we would do it to make dc happy so really selfish motivation.

@TheBlueKoala that’s interesting - maybe it’s OTT to contribute directly to parents as well as our DD’s own spending money.

£25 a day for food so yes your £250 sounds about right to me

You can always ask: "How much will you need for food costs?" And adding that you will give your daughter spending money as well. I would def not have accepted anything if it was me who asked another child along to be a company to my child. Spending money is great- give enough so that she can invite the family for drinks/ice cream once if you want.
