I've got lots of friends who are having a tough time at the moment. Various ailments including chemo, surgery, viral illness and just generally having a crap time of it.
I was hoping the lovely Mumsnet hive mind could recommend some cheapish cheer me ups I can send them to help them feel loved and cared for.
I don't do temu or shein but do do Amazon. (Although what's the difference really!)
They like meditation, yoga, cooking, gardening. Standard 40 yr old women stuff.
Recommendations gratefully received.
Please help. X

A friend of mine sent me a box of pies while I was having chemo! That cheered me up no end, they were gorgeous.
I’ve sent cream tea in the post several times which has always been well received,

I've sent brownies before for this kind of thing.

I have sent parcels with a book / book of puzzles, bar of chocolate, nice card to older relatives that were having long term treatments etc. It didn't really matter what was in it to be honest, they appreciated being thought about.

I get a regular veg box from Abel & Cole, and you can order a box to be sent to another address (as long as they deliver to the area). Minimum order is £12, so by the time you've got some nice bakery goods, fancy jam or chutney, olive oil, whatever its easy to make up a cheering box of goodies.

Homemade food always feels special so if you like cooking or baking, maybe you could batch cook something to give to your friends. I did a lasagne years ago for a mum friend with cancer which meant one less meal for her and her hubby to worry about and I have an amazing friend who makes brownies for people. Something like that?

Excellent ideas. I know the Gower brownie company does this - however I make good brownies myself so I feel like 20 quid is a bit of rip off.
None are close so will need to be able to send them - used to have an able and cole account and still have semi active riverford so will look them up.
Perhaps a pack of stuff from flying tiger would be a good idea.

A friend just sent me a lovely scented calming pillow spray as she knows I’m having a tough time. It was such a lovely thought.

I think it really is the thought that counts here - whatever you send will be appreciated because it shows you care. Having said that when i was having chemo i loved the special handcreams/body creams, the lovely smelly ‘posh’ soap, the warm socks (i was in hospital a lot), and the luxury chocolate bars - i didn’t really fancy regular sweet chocolate, but the posh stuff felt like a treat that i could just have a square of. When i was out of hospital, i loved the flowers i was sent. But overwhelmingly it was being remembered and knowing people cared enough to send something that i remember most.

When my friend was having chemo I sent her a small jellycat which made her smile. It was the croissant as we always get one at work and she said it made her smile.

Ringtons tea and biscuits hampers - great value for money and always nicely packaged …. And I’m sure the Brazil nut cookies contain illicit drugs they’re so good

When I was having cancer treatment I would treat myself before or after an appointment with a nice coffee or something from the m&s shop/cafe at the hospital. It got expensive!
Maybe find out what cafe /shop they have at her hospital and get her a voucher. I would have really appreciated that.

I’ve recently gone through surgery for cancer and I’m actually pretty sad that not a single person got me a bunch of flowers. Everyone seems to want to do something more special nowadays but honestly I would have been over the moon with flowers.

I got SO much chocolate and sweet stuff and I’m really not a massive fan of anything too sugary, plus I was trying to lose weight before my surgery so it feels like such a waste and that my weight loss will be back to square one once I’ve recovered. I’ve been giving a lot of it to DH and my DC because there’s just too much for me.

I did have some lovely gifts of comfy t-shirts, pyjamas and a weighted panda thing that feels like someone is giving you a hug, those are nice things I’ll keep forever and have given a lot of comfort right now.
