They will be alright for days!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/06/2026 18:41

If they look fine and aren’t slimy I’d say ok. That said I had stomach ache recently after eating out of date salad but it was a few days out

ChessieFL · 07/06/2026 18:41

They’ll be fine. You can tell if veg is ok just by looking at it. I never pay any attention to the dates on fruit and veg. I just use my eyes.

mrsbowes · 07/06/2026 18:42

They're use by because they will go mouldy and become unsafe to eat at some point - best before is still safe to eat might just not taste good.
But you can judge whether veg is still ok by looking at it!

momager22 · 07/06/2026 18:44

Of course they’ll be fine if they’re not slimy

JustChillin70 · 07/06/2026 18:45

I’ve eaten them up to 4 or 5 days after the date and they’ve been fine

ourSusie · 07/06/2026 18:48

but to be sure, would you please check in with us say, Tuesday

tiramisugelato · 07/06/2026 18:53

Of course they'll be fine Confused

BuffaloCauliflower · 07/06/2026 18:53

I wouldn’t even look at the date for something like this. If the content looks and smells ok then eat it

PinkWabbit · 07/06/2026 18:55

If you go to a farmers market or grow your own, there are no stamps to tell you when to use the produce by, so you have to go by your own eyes and the feel and smell of fruit and vegetables. If they are firm(ish), no mould or condensation and don't smell bad, then they are fine.

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 07/06/2026 18:57

I think they are use by because they’ve been prepared and washed, it’s the water/exposure to oxygen in preparing that may hasten the deterioration process.

I still think it’s a use sensible approach, if they look and smell fine then go with it.

JanFebAndOnwards · 07/06/2026 18:59

Yes increased risk cos have been prepped and chemicals used to prolong shelf life.
I’d still use them though!

MyThreeWords · 07/06/2026 18:59

They will taste rubbish and the nutritional value will have dwindled. But I don't think they will harm you.

I don't get why people buy pre-prepared veg. Even after an hour or so a chopped carrot will be flaccid and minging.

BillieWiper · 07/06/2026 19:01

The carrots you can see are drying out. As long as the other things arent slimy or smelly they'll be fine though. It's just because of the fact they're cut up/small and mixed I think it makes it go off quicker than if they were whole or separate.

StressedSupportWorker · 07/06/2026 19:03

This packet has a use by date instead of a best before date because it's pre-cut and peeled, "ready to cook" product.

They will be fine tomorrow, but hurry up about eating them because they will decline in taste.

MaidOfSteel · 07/06/2026 19:04

I wonder if the date is use by, rather than before before, because some or all of the veggies are already chopped and longer in their own natural, protective skin.

It is. Unpeeled fruit and vegetables are one of the exceptions to the legislation specifying food products have to have a use by date.

Owly11 · 07/06/2026 19:15

Veg is ok if you boil it. Salad is not ok to eat out of date and should be binned. Bagged salad can make you seriously ill if it's out of date.

Shinyhappyapple · 07/06/2026 19:19

i find that carrots that have been pre-cut into batons do tend to go off quite quickly, slimy with a funny taste. Keep them in the fridge and just check before you eat . (Open the bag and check rather than microwaving in the bag). The broccoli and sweetcorn should be fine for a while longer.

It CLEARLY says 07 June. And the carrots look dried out. Bacterial factory.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/06/2026 19:26

Everyone saying if they look ok. My out of date salad looked fine but first day of eating it was about 4 days out I had mild stomach cramps. Next day I ate it again (didn’t know what it was and that the salad was out of date as this point) and I had horrible cramps and had to leave work early.

TheCurious0range · 07/06/2026 19:27

I get these! Great for dinner at work when I'm on call and want fresh veg with leftovers, I use them well past their date as long as they look ok. I'm alive!

LewKirtonHeavenInTheAfternoonNSOul · 07/06/2026 19:27

I may be wrong, isn't there some type of gas used in those bags once opened the veg decays very quickly.

Because when I'm on night shift at work. I only have a microwave at my disposal and these steam bags mean I can reheat some frozen home cooked food eg chilli and rice and have fresh veg with it

thecuree · 07/06/2026 20:55

Thanks everyone
