I have to an extent defended Bonnie, always put the onus back on the 1000s of men for being more grim than she is.
I actually have tried to separate her character from her as a real person and wondered had the hate she received been too much. My mind is changed by her holding a baby, even if it’s a doll, in an environment full of men who plan to have sex with her. It has really upset me. The pregnancy sex stuff was weird, but as someone who believes in autonomy for pregnant women, I did accept her body, her choice. However I did worry about that sexualisation of a foetus and the knock on effect this could have. Pregnant Women have been “womb raided” for many reasons, the last thing women carrying babies need is to be targeted by some freak with a disgusting fantasies which is being normalised by someone like Bonnie. I’m sure someone will be here to tell me that’s a stretch/i’m reaching/knock off the Netflix documentaries but unfortunately a good friend of mine works in child safety. The shit she’s dealing with is so fucked up. We don’t think the worst in some of these men enough.
I have no idea how many months postpartum she actually is, she’s making out it’s weeks but that could be for shock value. However, how often do we read on hear about husbands wanting sex when wife is still recovering from birth, hasn’t slept more than 3 hours a night for weeks and has leaking sore breasts?
How many tired women who have married these princes are going to hear, “BB had a gangbag 2 weeks after her c section, you can do xyz for me”.
Bonnie isn’t stupid, she’s probably going to push every boundary with pixilated dolls etc that she can for reactions like this. She won’t ever cross a boundary that will land social services on her doorstep. She’s going to continue to have a wonderful life spending her fortune, her baby will become a very wealthy child who’ll be taught to appreciate what their mother’s career has afforded them. It may work out for Bonnie and her child, it may be the child needs therapy and wants emancipation, time will tell.
But even imagery of dolls, when the fetish or sexual element is a baby being surrounded by men intending to have sex with its mother is disturbing and a slippery slope into mainstream (legal) porn culture I for one don’t want to see.
