Well everyone does their best to try and not have one

I don't think it's the end of the world, but I'd prefer not to have one because it suggests cheap clothes that don't fit properly, and spoils the line. Clothes don't necessarily need to be expensive to look good IMO, but it's best to avoid those that look cheap.

There are different levels of VPL. Hard to say without context.

No it’s not the end of the world. But I still don’t think it looks as good as without one.

They do look awful but each to their own.

Unfortunately I can't help but notice when I'm on the treadmill and the stairmasters are directly in front and their arses are at my eye level!
