Neighbour wants council to redistribute part of our garden

I live in council housing , we have a large back garden , we are on the end one side and have another house joined to ours then the road goes round a corner so their garden is a very small triangle shape.

They have informed me that they are asking the council to ‘redistribute the space’ basically they want some of my garden !!! Surely the council wouldn’t do this ?? I can’t even see how it would be possible??

There is a large grassy area to the side of my house I don’t understand why they don’t go there if they want some outdoor space plus a local park?

Replace council by "private landlord" in this and everyone would agree it would be possible (subject to the terms of the tenancy agreement plus statutory rights) of course).

As to how likely it would be to happen depends on a few things. How much hassle it is for the council, how much money they can make out of doing it.

My guess is that it would have to be quite a lot of money paid by the other person in order to make the whole process worthwhile, and pay the fees of both rewriting the legal stuff for the land transfer as well as changes to the tenancy agreement and of course the land.

My guess is the ultimate way of finding out whether it would be possible would maybe to look at the tenancy agreement you have and see whether it mentions anything that might allow things like this to happen.

Likely just upset as you have a lot of garden and fhey don’t. I mean this gently, I grew up in council it’s not your garden you can make a case as to why you need the space, but it maybe difficult,

It is her garden while she is renting the property. The renting agreement she has with the council is for the house and the garden.
OP I doubt the council will take your neighbour's request seriously. I wouldn't worry about it.
