Firstly im not looking for an online diagnosis. I will visit the GP. If i went and said...
I was an odd child, spent alot of time alone, talked to myself, was obsessive but popular until secondary.
Friendships have always been short lived and intense. I was probably possessive.
Relationships were a huge issues. I was scared of men basically !
When younger in jobs I'd get overwhelmed and break down (how embarrassing) and was sent home a few times. I lacked resilience.
I literally get obsessed over things ie I want to see a film I'll Google it 60 times a day to check the time and date etc
I ruminate alot on the past
Im a people pleaser and tie myself up in knots to not offend people
I have a very vivid imagination and create scenarios daily
Would they send me for an assessment for neurodiversity?

I'd think about what you're looking for from a diagnosis - getting a label for stuff isn't always helpful unfortunately!

For what cost?

Do you mean how much will the sessions cost? I've no idea. If you have no money to pay privately you could ask your GP to refer you. I'm not sure if that's even possible, but you could ask

You need to go and ask for an assessment via right to choose if you believe you might be autistic.

I did the same last year ☺️

I would say you sound like you have a degree of anxiety, nothing screams neurodivergence to me.

Are you an expert in the field?

I think it's dangerous to give opinions such as yours base on a short post by OP.

Negroany · 07/06/2026 08:45

I don't think you have to say all that, just ask for the referral.

In my area, the forms are published, so you can fill them in in advance and take to the GP. You can't send them on yourself.

The waits are really long in most places, but I have heard of people being seen within a few months.

What would a diagnosis bring you do you think?

I am asked frequently if im adhd. I think I have traits of both. I just feel like I'm not here most of the time.

The feeling like you're not really here could be a side effect of the antidepressants.

ClairDeLooney · 07/06/2026 08:59

Your op is me, word for word.

No GP ever took any notice and repeatedly said my issues are all down to anxiety and prescribed antidepressants on repeat which have never helped me.

Anyhow, eventually I did Right to Choose, GP not overly impressed.

Last year I was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD at 51. I'm fairly sure I have asd too but too overwhelmed to pursue another assessment as I find it all too stressful.

So my advice would be to go down the RTC route.

Good luck.

Hi. Have you chosen to take ADHD medication? If so, has it helped? Thanks, in similar situation, awaiting assessment.

Catgotyourbrain · 07/06/2026 12:14

Have a look at Problem Shared- they are one of the providers licensed under the NHS ‘right to choose’ they have lots of resources if you think you might be neurodivergent. Fill in their questionnaire and it will indicate if you might be neurodivergent and you can then use their template to ask your GP for referral for assessment.

there are other providers to but I know them to be very thorough and of a high standard through my job.

i used them and was given an ASD diagnosis a couple of years ago. It was/is useful to me and my family and I feel I know myself better and can understand my feelings

good luck
