& connect it to my phone; will I then be able to use it to send/recieve messages?

I don't really understand how these things work 🤔

If you download the appropriate app, yes.

TheWineoftheChicken · 04/06/2026 17:26

Yes, you just have to pair it with your phone.

I pay for data for my current (old) watch - will that connect too so I can leave my phone in class & text dd1 if I need to while on my break?

Sorry, I did google, I don't understand how it works - if the data won't connect to a new to me watch then I'll cancel it. No point paying for something I can't use!

Could your local computer repair shop do it for you? Shame to miss out.

Maybe - they're all those tech/vape shop type shops - maybe they're ok 🤷‍♀️.

There are 2 types of smart watches the purely Bluetooth ones and the LTE ones

The purely Bluetooth ones only work with your phone within close signal area like headphones need to be nearish the phone not in the park while the phone is at home. You don't pay any extra for using bluetooth.

It doesn't matter which type they are if you are using bluetooth

The LTE ones work without your phone but they use your data calls and texts limits - you usually have to pay for this ONE NUMBER system on O2 etc

Mine is a LTE one but it works from Bluetooth atm as I haven't needed to separate them yet

@brassbells thank you for explaining! I'm looking at a pre-loved Samsung Galaxy Active Watch 2. Current (broken) watch was useable for calls/texts away from phone so would I then need 02 to do something with the new watch so I can do the same?

It is the type of watch that makes the difference either only Bluetooth or LTE

If it is only Bluetooth it will only work if it is near to the phone- like headphones on Bluetooth you can listen to music from the next room or upstairs but not at the park with the phone at home

If it is LTE then it can work at the park with your phone at home

BTW on EE they include the cost in the contract so about £12 a month for both the LTE watch and phone together I think that is what they told me but I am deaf so miss some words in phone conversations
