Is it the doctor I contact regarding funny walking?

I’ve been noticing that when my DD (13) walks, it’s not a normal full footed walk. She seems to walk with the sides of her feet pointing inwards, and when you look at her shoes, you can see they are wearing away like it.

Who would be the best person to contact about that? I’m guessing doctors or do I go straight to a podiatrist?

I’d message the GP surgery and ask who the best person to see is. I’d see either GP, podiatrist or physio .

Thanks. I’ll send a message off now

I’d go straight to a podiatrist but as that’s something kids can get free on nhs, a referral from gp might be needed. In some areas you can self refer I think.

I think the GP would be the first contact- they are the gateway for referrals to most other services

You can get a free gait analysis at running shoe shops will tell you if she pronating for example
Then self refer to community physio or podiatrist

Yes GP.

But also be very clear what it is you’ve witnessed and what you want and what your concerns are.

Is this new? About shoes wearing. Concerned about her ankles/knees? Any pain in her ankles/hips/knees?
is it causing her not to be able to do any activities?
Is she tripping more often?

Services are so overstretched right now you need to fully outline to make sure you aren’t fobbed off.

She’s definitely a lot more clumsy. She’s been getting bruising and scrapes on her legs a lot more

That definitely needs mentioning to make sure she gets referred to the right person.

I’d definitely go to the GP. It may need a referral to Orthotics.

See GP. If this new it may warrant referral to neurology
