Can I tell you how proud I am of my 5 year old?

I can't call him my son because I am his foster carer (although we have permanence so we have been together a while and will be together for many more years yet, he's definitely part of our family). He has profound and multiple disabilities, he faces huge challenges every day, he's unable to walk, talk or even hold his head up without support but the clever little boy can now reliably identify objects up to three (he uses a communication aid to tell the adult how many objects there are).

Well done and well done you, you are changing this little boy's life in ways he will never know. May you be a gift on each others' lives always. :')

That's brilliant OP.

It must be so wonderful and so rewarding to see this wee soul developing his skills.

I don't believe in angels, but if I did, you would be one! Such lovely news in a world that is so often full of not lovely news. It sounds like he is prospering under your care and attention - it must be so rewarding for you both. Wishing you all the best going forward - he's lucky to have you supporting and championing him.

Pearlstillsinging · 02/06/2026 22:43

Well done to all concerned. I'm sure that a lot of hard work has gone into that achievement. Of course you are proud of him, rightly so!

DozeyTwonk · 03/06/2026 00:23

That is so lovely to hear. Well done. Would you consider adoption or SGO?

Letsgoforaskip · 03/06/2026 00:48

Well done both of you! Amazing work. He’s a lucky boy to have someone who loves him and can see his strengths, character and abilities rather than any limitations. It seems that you are both helping each other to thrive ❤️
What a wonderful thread to counter so much depressing news.

KnitFastDieWarm · 03/06/2026 00:56

he’s your boy in all the ways that matter most, and I’m sure he knows it. He obviously feels safe and secure with you, as none of us can learn when we’re feeling unsettled. Bless him, I bet you can’t wait to see what he’ll be capable of next!

PeonyBulb · 03/06/2026 02:31

What a lucky boy to have you caring for him. It’s obviously doing him a lot of good.

Iocanepowder · 03/06/2026 02:43

This is lovely, well done to you both :)
