My dad has pancreatic cancer - it’s now spread and we have been told he has a year max. I’m engaged, we had hoped to have a small wedding in 3/4 years, but obviously I want my dad at my wedding!! We will have a tiny budget, luckily we only wanted something low key anyway - but ideas for a low cost wedding very very welcome. I’m happy with second hand dress etc. the only important thing is my dad is there.

My best friend did a lovely but budget friendly wedding, just had a few people at the registry office and then booked a table at a local restaurant.

It was honestly one of the best weddings I’ve been to.

2nd hand dress, shop flowers etc.

Total cost was £800ish.

As you main motivation for marrying soon is so your dad can be there, please just arrange it as soon as you possibly can. Within weeks rather than months so that your dad has the best possibility of being well enough to enjoy your special day with you. So sorry for his diagnosis.

Hire a village hall and instead of gifts ask everyone to bring a dish of something. You could even ask people to bring flowers from their gardens and buy charity shop vases.
M&S do lovely flowers you could hand tie.
Local Indian reastaurant for catering.
You might get lucky in a charity shop for your dress.
Very sorry to hear about your dad. It's such a hard time.

DS2 wedding was hastily rearranged due to COVID and at very short notice - 5 days - as they were emigrating. Only them and us as witnesses so can't offer catering suggestions but I did the bouquet. I bought sunflowers from Sainsbury's and wrapped the stems in garden twine. Button holes were yellow freesias (also Sainsbury's) and a blue flower I can't remember, also wrapped in twine. Bright and cheerful.
