I went to the dentist a few weeks ago for a check up and was advised to return for a filling to be replaced and decay underneath to be removed. I paid band one for that.
i returned last week and topped up the payment to band 2 and had the filling replaced.
The filling lasted less than 24 hours and the whole thing came out. I followed guidance regarding eating and drinking etc. it felt too big and lumpy and I couldn’t close my teeth together fully.
I phoned up and got an appointment a week later (today) to have it looked at again. They tried to cancel this morning due to absence but I pushed to be seen by someone else due to pain and waiting a while already. I was booked in with another dentist. No mention of further charges.
i arrived and was asked for band 1/emergency appointment payment. I refused given the circumstances and they accepted it wasn’t right to charge me given they cancelled my appointment and how little time the filling lasted.
the dentist I saw todaysaid it looks like I may need a crown and root canal (I was expecting this to happen eventually). But he has refilled it with a glass type filling for now and asked me to book to see the original dentist to assess again.
am I right thinking that I could top up to band 3 if this is necessary and not have to pay the full band 3 from scratch?
I just feel a bit taken aback by being asked for money again today and want to know my rights regarding nhs charges.
