Mounjaro Odd Side Effect….

Mounjaro users….

Anyone else on it feel a little bit lost with what to do with themselves? I am on week 3 of 2.5mg, have great appetite suppression, and no ‘food noise.’ I’m eating healthy, smaller meals which is great, and losing weight gradually.

But…..I keep wandering into the kitchen and feeling odd, because I’d usually be raiding the crisps and chocolate bars. Beginning to realise how much of my time and headspace was taken up thinking about food or just mindlessly snacking.

I’m not quite sure what to do with myself now I’m not interested in food, it’s bizarre.

I recommend getting a Kindle.

Yes this was my experience too, at first! I've been on it for 17 months now, so am used to it, but still sometimes find myself wandering into the kitchen (old habits die very hard!) wondering what to do now I don't feel the need to eat every 5 minutes...

I have found I got much calmer, more content with life as time went on - ans I now do more other things. I spent most of yesterday decorating a room and then gardening - utterly unheard of pre-MJ! I now have the energy to do stuff (heading towards 8 stone lost), I have more focus on things now I'm not thinking about food all the time and I'm just interested in other things a lot more.

But yes, it's very odd at first, having all this headspace and not knowing what to feel it with - completely understand! I've also got into yoga (yoga with Adriene on YouTube) - great for the body and mind as she really combines yoga with meditation-type exercises. Something I wouldn't have had the patience for pre-MJ but now helps me hugely.

Get an adult colouring book, do a jigsaw puzzle, take up cross stitch or diamond art.

I had this as well but for me it was great as I had 3 years of mental chaos beforehand and it helped me getting back into some of my hobbies.

Reading
Exercise, if you aren't active, try things like yoga or walks first maybe. Walking while listening to an audiobook is great
Gardening

After I lost some weight I tackled all these little jobs in the house, sorting out stuff and reorganising. With loosing weight I also lost the attitude of "it's a too great effort".

I’ve got a pile of books lined up to read. I mostly read at night.

Yes I recognise what you are describing here. These days I do a lot of tidying and sorting around the house instead. As a result I get a lot more stuff done than previously which I really appreciate!

Wow! 8 stone is insane, you have done your body and especially your joints a massive service there losing that much. That’s incredible.

I’m really hoping my decorating mojo returns! I used to decorate rooms enthusiastically, but haven’t had the inclination to for years.

Yoga is a great idea. I am generally busy doing jobs, but when I pass through the kitchen I’m no longer standing in the corner eating rubbish out of the cupboard and it’s weird to lose that activity.

I might make a list of kitchen tidying tasks so I’ve got a focus when I’m in there, a little lost and bewildered because I’m not snacking. 😂

It’s flipping insane to have that ‘willpower’ not to cave in and eat crisps etc and emotionally eat like I have done for years.

It’s so interesting how the food noise stops and you realise how much of an emotional crutch food was/is!!! I’ve turned to gardening with my time - not very good at it aYET but my garden like my body and my health will look better in time!!!

maybe next time you walk into the kitchen fill up your water bottle!!! As water is king on WLI - create good new routines if you are automatically walking into the kitchen

LarksAscending · 01/06/2026 12:42

I don’t think that’s a side effect… that’s a habit behaviour

For me it's tea, the amount of tea bags I go through as multiplied.

I do drink water as well but I need a taste.

WildLeader · 01/06/2026 16:30

@Honeysucklelane its your cue to drink water!

3l a day or the constipation can be brutal. You just need to reprogram your brain
