Has anyone used a phone app to create or edit a passport photo?
If so which app did you use please and did it make a useable photo
Thanks

Surely you just take a photo on your phone. That’s what I do. You don’t need an app and you’re not allowed to edit it. Then upload it. It’ll tell you immediately if it’s acceptable.

First post nails it.

Your camera. That’s it. If you use anything else it’s unlikely to be accepted and your photo will be rejected.

DandelionClockSeeds · 31/05/2026 18:25

Dont edit it, dont do it as a selfie.

We've used paspics for years where we've needed a physical photo.

Otherwise get someone to take one using your phone, and upload it

GoodkneeBadKnee · 31/05/2026 18:26

I just took a photo with my phone.

NoisyBuilder · 31/05/2026 18:27

I put a white bedsheet over a door in a brightly lit area, stood DS against it and told him not to smile.

Worked a treat.

It's finding a plain white background in my house that is the problem

Good idea, I will try that

First post nails it.

First post doesn't really nail it, see my white wall issue. Still, the pp who suggested a bed sheet could be on to a solution

If you really can’t manage it at home then just go to the nearest supermarket and use the Photo Booth. They give you a digital code now so you can type that into the online passport application.

Crunchymum · 31/05/2026 18:56

What colour are your walls?
Do you have no access to any white walls anywhere?

Go to Snappy Snaps, they'll do the picture and issue the code for your online application.

Walls are various colours, none are white

Stick some white paper behind your head or a white bed sheet.

Thanks yes I know about going to a photo booth, I've done that before. I just wanted to explore whether there is any way to do it at home.

I found a white wall in public (in a museum) and did it there. Then when one was rejected I found a whitish wall (it was dirty and radiators and suchlike) and it was good enough.

fiveturds · 31/05/2026 19:17

Any sort of cream/light wall is fine. I just took the photo with my iPhone.

Henriettina · 31/05/2026 19:21

I’ve just done it and the rules explicitly say that the pic can’t be edited in any way.

We do have a white wall which helps, but I’ve previously done it on a neighbour’s outside wall when I found it hard to get rid of shadows inside.

Jshkag · 31/05/2026 19:44

Ok thanks everyone

Well you didn't mention that issue when I made my comment. I'm not psychic! But you are not allowed to use apps and that was the point that the previous poster and I were making - I know people who have used apps and had their photos rejected on that basis. We were trying to be helpful.

canuckup · 07/06/2026 21:56

I had this just recently as I had to apply for an ETA

We used the back of a poster board - bright white. Photo accepted straight away.

Just against a white wall was rejected.

OneZanyCat · 07/06/2026 22:43

I used an app to do mine think it was PhotoAid and was about £10 and guaranteed accepted for that. I submitted it and was accepted and have used passport fine since. It did come up this may not be accepted but it was. I was struggling to get one at home due to lighting.

mynamesaretaken · 09/06/2026 07:16

You can take the photo yourself easily with your phone camera as pps suggested, just make sure you follow the requirements regarding the plain white background and put the camera vertically so that you'd be facing it directly. To resize the picture you can use one of the passport size photo makers like this one or online tools and you're all set. If you're applying online, you don't need to do anything else.
