The EES - what to do if one family member has EU passport?

We’re visiting Europe in the next few weeks. My husband has his Irish passport, the rest of us don’t (I never will, the kids’ applications are processing). When it comes to the EES, can we all go through, piggybacking on the Irish passport or will he go through by himself and us in the queue?

Did that queue have automatic gates? I still haven't figured out how to deal with these.

We've been to the EU 3 times since the EES came in.

The first time UK passport holders had to register for EES. This took about 15 minutes (small Italian airport). On leaving and subsequent re-entry everybody went through 'All Passports', except those who needed to register with EES. Passport face down, look at camera, gates open, walk through. No stamps, no manual check.

I was chatting to one of the officials who was available to help people register for EES and he said that that was the point of EES - once registered the automatic passport control worked for EU and non-EU passports as the details were on the system. That was certainly our experience in 3 different airports in 2 EU countries.

It does sound as if some airports haven't got their systems up and running properly.

Depends on the airport/flights re the queues. Took me 5 mins each way in Geneva last week. This was in the middle of the day.
