My parents are now in a home and my brother and I have to sell their flat to pay for it. We both live respectively a short flight and a 150mile drive away.

What items food wise etc should we keep in house that can survive a few weeks in fridge and would he very handy to have during putting it up for sale and staying there to visit parents?

Flat is 10yr old Churchill flat which are slow selling so we are going to utilise it while its up for sale.

Pinot Grigio?

For the fridge - Eggs, hard cheese like cheddar, peanut butter, jam, potatoes for baking. For the cupboard ,M&S tinned bolognese and chilli are nice, plenty of meat and well flavoured. Packs of ready cooked rice and lentils. Part baked bread rolls usually have a long shelf life.

Pinot Grigio?

Ha yes. They have a drinks cabinet. Same one I grew up with and nicked from. I took a bottle of vodka for my dad in the home but I think it 'disappeared'. I've nearly finished the chocolate Baileys I got for them at xmas as I was ordering their food shop. Theres some whiskey and some Brandy left. Ive bought 12 pack of Pepsi Max and am having that now with the Whiskey.

Yes, eggs last much longer than their use by don't they. A tub for cheese. MnS tip useful as I wouldn't have thought of that, I'll have a look.

What are packs of ready cooked rice and lentils?!

I don't care about bread as ive had to recently become gluten free due to regular diarrhea so I already have GF bread in fridge and crackers etc.

My 16yr old son stayed last week with a friend to go to 2 festivals and get shown round houses of parliament by his half sister. He left the kitchen in a shit state so he has to make sure not to do that again in case of estate agent viewings. Saying that I don't care much about it selling quick as its all going to the council anyway.

Is there a freezer? That might be more useful than the fridge.

Those microwaveable Ben's rice packets, flavoured ones aren't too bad. Noodles. Tinned soup. Crisps. Spread in the fridge. Peanut butter, jam etc

If someone's there for more than a day, they can go to the shop, but a loaf in the freezer will see them ok until the next day.

Tea, coffee, sugar and milk, long life if needed.
