I don’t have a shredder. I have lots of paperwork with personal/financial info on to get rid of. Short of a bonfire (I won’t) what else would you do.

I use it as fire lighters in the log burner.

Shredder and compost bin

I usually use a shredder, but my DH died and I've got bags of confidential paperwork from his accounts, bank statements, financial dealings etc. There's more than I'd like to burn and way too much for my shredder. As a one off I'm thinking of getting one of these commercial shredding services. They deliver sacks to you, you fill them and then arrange collection. Their workers are police vetted and the vans are satellite tracked. Each sack holds 4-5 reams of A4 paper and the cost depends on how many sacks you fill.

Search local confidential shredding services- we collected bags from them, returned them full and got a certificate of destruction.
cost about 40 quid for 3 big bags.

I tear it up and put it in my compost bin and cover that with lawn clippings.
Not an industrial scale amount obvs but usually when I’ve cleared through some paperwork.

Well dont get the rubbish shredder I have that shreds about 20 peices of paper, can get about 2 in at a time despite it saying 6. You then spend 5 times as long with a pair of scissors yanking it all out because it jams up very quickly. Quicker to soak but i would definitely look for a professional service that shreds in bulk.

OP: “I don’t have a shredder”
Everyone: “Buy a shredder. “

Answered your own question there OP.

We have a shredder, but it we build up enough we just take it to the shipping place by us. They shred by the pound for cheap. They have an industrial machine that doesn’t require feeding pages. They just dump in the box.

Garden incinerator, cheap quick & easy. I save mine up for months & tray it.like a bonfire or have on a miserable day when no one is trying to enjoy their garden or will have washing out.

TheCurious0range · 30/05/2026 19:07

In the winter I use it to light the fire, outside of that I take it into work we have shred it bins all over the office that are collected weekly

I’ve got a roller stamp that obfuscates, like this: https://www.ryman.co.uk/trodat-id-protector-roller-ink-stamp-black
