Do mammogram and cervical screening rules differ by region for older women?

I'm reading Amanda Platell's column where she's talking about prostate cancer screening and says "I arranged a routine mammogram through my GP ... My regular cervical test was also arranged".

My mum couldn't get a smear test. She was told she's too old at 67 for regular screening but to see the doctor if she has any problem symptoms. That's younger than Amanda.

Does this differ between regions?

I thought everyone was sent a reminder letter up to a certain age but after that age you can still request one.
I was wrong about smears apparently these are the rules.
If you're 65 or older and have never been for cervical screening, or have not had cervical screening since the age of 50, you can ask your GP for a test.
Did you know they only test for Hpv now and you can buy these online to do yourself at home and if it is positive you can request a smear.

You can request mamagrams after 70 every 3 years

I thought it was different from PCT to PCT. I'm 53 in a few months.
Not been called for a mammogram.
Last smear was 5 years ago.

Could "my regular cervical test was also arranged" mean that when she was below 67 and having smears it was arranged via her GP? Rather than meaning she is still having them?

Interesting, my mom has never once mentioned going for a mammogram (we are close so she would say) and I know she’s never in her life had a smear. It really annoys me

I thought I'd have to request a mammogram as I'm 70 but, surprisingly, I received an appointment for one last week. I'm in the south east.

Mammograms are routine up to 70 but then after that age you can request one but won’t be routinely invited.

Cervical screening ends by 65, as long as you’ve had 2 negative results in the 10 years preceding your 65th birthday. If your last smear was normal at say 61-65 you won’t necessarily be called again.

Why does it annoy you?
I can understand you being concerned or worried but ultimately its your muns choice.

Purely that reason, I worry about her. She’s a heavy smoker and has been her whole life, plus my sibling has a disability so I think it’s selfish of her not to make sure her health is okay

They invite you but don't frogmarch you to it.

I don't blame you for being annoyed!

Can’t force her though, even though I absolutely would if I could, might make me sound bad but it’s only out of love. I think more than anything she is worried that if they do find something she’d have to change her lifestyle
