Can you buy cider easily in Cyprus or Greece on holiday?

Bit of a niche query, really.

I'm looking at holidays for April time next year. With the time of year, I'm looking at the Canary Islands and then thought that Greece or Cyprus might also be pretty warm too, and so they are now in the mix.

However, I drink cider. I don't drink spirits beyond the odd cocktail. I never expect a hotel to have it available; I'm always happy to source my own. When I holiday in Spain or the Canarys' this isn't an issue.

However, when I went to Turkey a few years ago, I couldn't find cider of any kind in any of the shops or supermarkets and it was disappointing to not have a drink on my break away in the sun.

I'm wondering if anyone can advise if they've seen cider available in shops in Cyprus or Greece? I realise that's incredibly vague - you'll be thinking "where in Cyprus or Greece, you loon?!" - but I don't have a location in mind, sorry. If I know a certain area is likely to sell it, I'll look there for holidays 😅

I can’t help with your query but as a fellow cider drinker I feel your pain! I would doubt you’d find much cider in either country though.

It may have changed but Italy was not great for cider last time I went (2019), but my favourite pizza chain in the UK (Rudy’s) does sell an Italian cider so it does exist.

I was also delighted to find Bulmers at the top of a cable car in Norway!

DH is the same - and we've always managed to find cider in Greece. We've been to Zakynthos, Rhodes and Crete and always managed to find the likes of Strongbow, Magners, Somersby and the fruity ones like Kopparberg. Greece also have their own cider, Milokleftis, which is also nice. These are all readily available in bars and supermarkets. The only time we struggled was at Sani Beach - they had none and although we found one little beach bar nearby (offsite) they had run out and weren't expecting another delivery until after we left. But that was very early in the season in a very small place.

A quick google suggests that locally made cider is a thing in both Greece and Cyprus so unless you're actually looking for British brand cider, it looks like you'll be fine.

You don't say whether you drink beer, but have you tried fruit beers (Radler, Jubel) if you don't like normal lager etc?

Greece make their own cider as mentioned above it’s really delicious but as far as I know only comes in apple flavour. It’s all I drink in Greece .

I live in Cyprus. Cider is readily available here in bars and supermarkets, your usual Magners and Kopparberg, plus the Greek brand Milokleftis. There’s even a local cider called Militsa which is lovely.

It can be reasonably warm in Greece in April - but speaking as someone who lived there for several years, it can also piss down with rain and be cloudy and overcast.

IamSmarticus · 29/05/2026 13:26

Ive just come back from Kos and they sold cider in all the bars.

DH is the same and have always had no problem getting cider in Cyprus or Greece. Enjoy your holiday!

drunkelephant83 · 29/05/2026 13:28

In Cyprus now, it’s on tap in our hotel and in all bars, supermarkets.

JustPlainStanfreyPock · 29/05/2026 13:36

Just a warning to check with someone if you can't read the label in a supermarket. In Poland I bought a can of what I thought was cider, with a picture of an apple on it. Turned out to be apple-flavoured beer which was disgusting.

I don’t think either the Canary Islands or Greece and Cyprus are known for their luscious apple orchards so even if you could buy it, cider would be ££££

Maddy70 · 29/05/2026 13:52

Where I live in Spain cider is unavailable.

OneAquaFatball · 29/05/2026 14:22

Greece you should be able to find Koppaberg and their own brand Apple Thief everywhere on the main islands, more of the light and sweet fruity style ones. Athens you have even more of a mix.
For April in Greece make sure you're aware of the dates for Easter which differ from the UK and will especially on smaller islands affect accomodation, general business, and possibly flights/ferries depending on size, as well as all-out closures of most stuff for the three days of Sat-Sun-Mon. Bonus is lots of fun stuff to do in the buildup :)

Thank you all - your valuable advice and recommendations are gratefully received.

I'll definitely keep in mind about the weather and the Easter break.

It sounds like cider should be sourced easily enough, so that's great to know. If I go there, I'll keep my eyes peeled for the local cider!
