Where to travel after a New York wedding with three young children

We’ve been invited to a wedding next year in New York. We love to travel and when we visit a new country we always rent a car and move around staying in different air b&b type places every 2/3 nights. We’re really not city people so wouldn’t look to be spending much time in the actual city after the wedding. We love beaches, mountains, countryside etc.

We’ll have a 5 year old, 3 year old and a 10 month old baby at the time of the wedding (we have travelled with our older two lots and they’re good travellers).

With this in mind if you could plan a trip for say 3 weeks and head somewhere after the wedding where would you recommend? My USA geographical knowledge is limited so I may need help with this one!

What time of year? Check out the Adirondack mountains (northwest of New York?) and the beaches in New Jersey (south of New York). Both would be easily accessible by car.

I know youve said you’re not city people but Boston is lovely and you could drive right up the East coast through Maine Vermont etc in three weeks .

April so I guess still fairly chilly? Thank you, these sound great, I’ll have a look! ☺️

Another vote for Boston. Cape Cod is also lovely but not sure if worthwhile with small kids (when I went, I did a lot of cycling). Worth researching.

Head up to Lake Ontario, see Niagara falls, go to Catskills and adirondacks… so many options!!

We had a lovely holiday spending a couple of days in New York then went to Cape Cod and flew home from Boston.

Thank you, we’re definitely open to a couple of nights in a city as long as it’s balanced with some chilled out landscape too… I find it much easier to have the children going wild in nature than trying to keep them close in busy cities tbh 🤣

This suggestion won’t go down well on MN but you could take the train down to Washington, DC. It’s about 4-5 hours, and D.C. in the spring can be glorious if the cherry blossoms are in bloom.

We did an amazing road trip through New York then up into Canada and round Lake Ontario. We particularly enjoyed Maid of the Mist at Niagra Falls and the Wild Project in New York.

Washington DC is so good! Interesting, beautiful, big wide flat streets, loads of kid friendly museums, easy transport

Oooo thank you, if this is all driveable this could be a good option!

I was on the east coast this past April and it felt like mid winter! Nothing green (they actually had snow a couple days before we arrived but it had melted). So while I’d normally say head north to New England I think you should head south, but I’m unfamiliar with the south so bow to someone with better knowledge.

We had a great holiday (admittedly without kids) driving up the coast to Maine then to new Hampshire and Massachusets ending with Boston. April will still be fairly cool so probably not beach/sea swimming but lots to do, easy walks etc.
