What will reform actually do?

Lots of talk about reform getting in at the next election, lots of gleeful posters saying the benefits gravy train will stop etc but what can/will reform actually be able to do if they come to power? Their policies are very sensationalist and make lots of noise about stopping benefits for immigrants, stopping the boats.. but how? It can’t actually be done because of laws around human rights and foreign policy. They have already backtracked on cutting triple lock pensions so surely the majority of their policies would end up crumpling as well as they can’t be pushed forward. Cutting pip for depression.. how?! It feels like a drunk racist has written his thoughts on the back of a scratch card and ran with it!

Whilst I don’t agree with a lot, I do think the pip for anxiety/depression needs to stop.

The whole point of being in government is that you can change the law in order to implement your policies. You can pass new laws & you can also repeal the laws you inherited.

Reform’s policy is to repeal the 1998 Human Rights Act and the 2010 Equality Act. Both of which were passed by the previous Labour government and retained by the coalition & Conservative governments. Reform argue that this will make iit possible to, for example, deport illegal immigrants en masse. Assuming, of course, they can find another country prepared to take them.
