Things to do and see in Torquay.

We have been invited to a wedding in August just outside Torquay.
We have now decided to stay over in the centre of Torquay for a few days. Will be driving down.
Is there anything that we must see or do. Maybe things off the beaten track.
It will be just the 2 of us both in our 60's. Not partial to sitting on a beach. Gentle walks.
Nice restaurants, bars, parks, country houses. Anything with entertainment is a bonus.

Babbacombe Downs for lawned walks and flower beds, but with stunning sea views without needing to step foot on a beach. However, if you fancied something different, there is Babbacombe Cliff Railway that connects the Downs to Oddicombe Beach. There is a very nice restaurant at the bottom and then you could come back up again, without setting foot on the shingle beach.

Cockington's lovely for a walk and a cream tea. And you must do the Round Robin - bus to Paignton then steam train from Paignton to Kingswear, passenger ferry across to Dartmouth catch the boat to Totnes, then the bus back to Paignton. We did this a couple of years ago, it's a gorgeous trip up the River Dart and if you're lucky you might get to see some seals sunning themselves or swimming alongside the boat!

Colton Fishacre - gorgeous house to visit.

Torquay? Oh that’s easy. Look at the sea, It’s between the land and the sky.

(yep, showing my age).

Greenway (Agatha Christie’s) house is nearby and well worth a visit. I think we had to book as it isn’t very big, so worth checking. If you want to venture further afield you could catch the ferry from Torquay and go across to Brixham for a day/morning.

Just a little walk along the coast path going east to the view point to see a rock arch called... London Bridge

Torquay town is pretty grotty but the seafront is nice. Cockington is a bit touristy.

Teignmouth is a lot nicer and only a short drive along the coast. Totnes is nice too and there are good flat and hillier walking options.

The ferry to Brixham is a good idea and one I've been meaning to do for years!

Babbacombe is quite nice too and the cliff railway is fun.

Agreed and you can pick up the South West Coast Path there too.

Babbacombe had most amazingly colourful flower beds on the seafront when I was there in the past.
