I take it collective memories of how she steamrollered over a lot of reasonable people are very short.

Also, if you want to prance around pretending you are a serious political player, you really don't get to say "I never saw £400,000 pass through my house". That's Farage levels of intelligence insulting.

To be fair, the police investigated her and found no wrong doing. I think it is reasonable to accept that. I honestly don't believe she knew he was stealing party funds.
Possibly she closed her eyes to the fact that something was a bit "off", didn't question things she should have questioned. She wouldn't be the first spouse to do so and it isn't a crime.

Sturgeon didn't commit any crime.

Piggywaspushed · 01/06/2026 14:25

I have no distance from this since I knew her as a teenager. I feel really sad for her.

Sturgeon didn't commit any crime.

That isn't quite what I am saying though.

I am saying that if you weren't aware that £400,000 "just appeared" in your household, then maybe your understanding of reality is best not subjected to the strains of running a country.

A country that when you ran it was dogmatic about people who had committed no crime yet subject to vile abuse.

BestIsWest · 01/06/2026 14:36

Did you watch the interview @SerendipityJane? I’m interested in other takes than mine.

Two busy people, very healthy incomes, most likely separate finances, £400,000 passing through (and sometimes not through) the household over many years. It's not guaranteed to be noticed by the innocent party at all.

I haven't the foggiest how much money DH has in the bank.

I'll happily say I didn't. Just working of what I have picked up from the reporting.

There are a few areas where I can really clash with the "MN perspective" ... this may be one, as my sorrow glands are untroubled at the moment.

£400K didn't just appear though. No cash appeared. A steady stream of goods over the years did.

I do think she might have closed her eyes to it a bit. I very much doubt she ever thought he was stealing party money though.

Actually, I think you are very much with the "MN perspective" going by the threads running about the case, which are mostly not on NS's side.

Just about to post similar.

SerendipityJane · 01/06/2026 14:46

placemats · 01/06/2026 14:42

It didn't "just appeared" though. That's the reality.

Oh, I know it was x over y years.

But still, failing to spot that might explain a lot.

Looks like neither of us feels in a mood to move too much, and frankly this is an irrelevance to someone who has no say in Scottish politics. Except as a reminder that independence brings it's own perils.

placemats · 01/06/2026 14:50

What does it explain?

It's clearly not Sturgeon's crime. And yet she's blamed for not spotting it. May as well include the neighbours of her mother in law and also the mother in law, who surely knew her son had left a motor home on her drive.

TirednessOnToast · 01/06/2026 14:50

I watched the interview. I'm disappointed that rhe 'conversation' seems to be about coffee machines & onesie. It should be about the fact that NS was leader of rhe Party & PM was CEO. She signed off on rhe accounts. 600k that was 'ringfenced' for IndyRef was used for electioneering. 400k was stolen. PM was putting in personal funds to try to bung gaps as Auditors were being refused access to accounts and therefore resigning. NS was (possibly criminally, there is talk of a private prosecution) neglectful. At best. I've no time for her tearing up & playing rhe -'wronged woman' card. The SNP have form for ignoring rhe Supreme Court & doing exactly what rhe want. This is hiw rhe Party's accounts were run too. I note there was no acknowledgement of those whose money was stolen. And, how convenient PM appears in Court just after the election. Handy for Swinney.
Apologies for typos.

Lots more embaressing Mandelson revelations this afternoon so it looks like it will be back to the Starmer is going to resign today/tomorrow/wednesday type threads again

Piggywaspushed · 01/06/2026 16:37

It'll be a difficult one for them to reconcile because Mandy seems to keep saying Starmer is weak and says lots of things anti Starmerites will love - but at the same time they are meant to hate Mandelson so can't cheer him to the rafters either. 'Mandelson said we shouldn't have VAT' isn't really a thing to run with.

I particularly like his letter to Lammy which basically says 'I'll be the best ever at everything. Nothing could possibly go wrong'.

Dutch contingent - did you see the thing in The Times today about why Dutch kids are so happy and British kids so miserable? Astonishingly for The Times, the conclusion was 'private schools'.

So Trumpian.

DuncinToffee · 01/06/2026 16:43

They are having a difficult time, first Blair now Mandelson

And the PS happiness to top it off

(I didn't see the article)

Dutch children are the happiest in the world and I know why

Unicef just ranked the country top for child wellbeing. Mark Smith on life with his daughter in Amsterdam

Happy Dutch children is an ongoing thing. This article from 2 years ago is quite scathing towards the whole comparison process.

British children the least happy in Europe – and Dutch kids the happiest? Don’t believe the hype | Senay Boztas | The Guardian share.google/JygxK3C9J6stf7uDW

SerendipityJane · 01/06/2026 17:56

Happy Dutch children ? Probably due to a sensible drugs policy. Or just speaking Dutch. Or being near Belgium.

I am tired 😴 I am also feeling my brain is frying 🤯 after just trying to work out whether a community building is a mosque/ church/ foodbank and WTAF it really has to do with Kenyon being an absolute arsewipe of a person (I shouldn’t have mentioned arses as it’s too close to his filthy comments) ☹️
The twisting people do to justify this man being an acceptable candidate are a real worry for me. I don’t want my teenager thinking this is ok.

DuncinToffee · 01/06/2026 22:43

Worrying isn't it.
