The NEETs thread is full of people who have determinedly not actually read the Milburn Report making stuff up.

I particularly noted the poster that said young people should knock on people's doors and ask if they needed their garden doing 😁

Completely bonkers - don't they realise that Mumsnetters famously don't answer the door? 😂

It costs money to set up a gardening business and margins are tight.

Notonthestairs · 31/05/2026 11:15

From that thread -

So, putting it all in context👇

Given:

🔵 ~95% of 16-17 year olds are in education or training

🔵 As are ~50% of 18-24 year olds

🔵 The 6-year timescale for an 8-year age bracket

We can safely assume the overwhelming majority of those hires are "new"

I haven't read that thread on NEETs but on another one I was told not to blame the Tories for anything Grin

"Now this story isn't true. However, it tells us something about ...."

It's a comical rhetorical flourish that can be missed by the unfashionable.

And, if people cold call asking if your guttering needs cleaning, they often get reported to the police as it's not out of the ordinary for them to be scammers.

How far into that paedophile fantasy was safeguarding (for both sides of the situation) mentioned.

I'll put £1 on "nowhere".

Nigel Farage registered ‘absent’ from the last 77 votes in Parliament

Official Parliamentary figures reveal that Reform leader Nigel Farage hasn't bothered to vote for anything in the last 11 weeks...

I don't know if it is just me, but I am finding MN a bit odd. There are a few new names that have popped up who are posting really aggressively about politics, how terrible "lefties" are and anything immigration related. A couple of them are really rather sinister.

Maybe they will vanish into the ether after June 18th.

DuncinToffee · 31/05/2026 16:14

I have noticed as well.

Im not convinced they're British either. If they are, their linguistic and political influences seem rather American.

placemats · 31/05/2026 16:37

Yes that sums it up @TemperanceWest

Creepy as well as sinister. Half term finishes today. The last two sentences may or may not be related or relevant.

Totally agree. Some of the aggression and rudeness is next level.

Efacsen · 31/05/2026 16:48

I've noticed them too - they really stand out

I wouldn't risk much on the assumption MN is in anyway like real life.

Some of the posts in the Sturgeon thread are as unhinged as the royal threads.

Piggywaspushed · 31/05/2026 18:14

That really does not surprise me. The hate faction on MN against the SNP generally and Sturgeon specifically is really embedded.

I saw one yesterday suggesting she was secretly gay. As if that would be terrible in this day and age. People on MN are fully bananas.

Cyprus seeks to Farage-proof its UK military bases

Nicosia wants assurances that a future British government won’t be able to unilaterally use the bases for Middle East strikes.

I see this morning that Farage has thrown his toys out of his pram because the Beeb won’t have him on Desert Island Discs. Hilariously his response is “I have come to expect nothing less from the BBC — their blatant bias has been obvious for years. The BBC will have a rude awakening under a Reform government.”

Hopefully the beeb respond in kind and stop giving him such an easy ride.

placemats · 01/06/2026 10:04

So basically Farage is hoping/betting that Labour will fall so low in the polls, that the Government will call an early election. This has been the strategy of Reform from July 2024. Stock marketing the future of the UK.

Labour should stand firm against this egregious speculation and serve the full term.

In reply to @DuncinToffee and the link regarding Cyprus.

Who would want to listen to Farage and his music choices? Creepy as.
