Best way to keep small bottles of sparkling water cool in car

I have small bottles of sparkling water in my car for when I'm travelling between clients. So fed up of warm water. Any suggestions as Amazon didn't help. Thank you!

what about getting one of those in car cool boxes? Or just a normal cool box with ice packs?

Staffygirl · 25/05/2026 11:46

What about a 'cool bag'?
They're insulated. You could pop a 'freezer block' inside (that's just come out of the freezer) and your bottles of water. They'd stay cool for a long time.

Nourishinghandcream · 25/05/2026 11:47

Is the glovebox not cooled by the A/C?
Has been on every car we have owned since 2005?
Some have a second, cooled space leaving the main glovebox at normal temp.

Freeze them the night before and then put them in a cool bag. They will melt and cool the car as well.

As an ex care worker, I commend your work for the community. It's not easy on hot days.

Nourishinghandcream · 25/05/2026 11:51

When I used to do a lot of travelling for work, I would fill a stainless steel flask with ice cubes & water, lasted all day.

Likewise I used the same flask in winter for coffee, if at the end of the day there was a mugfull left it was still piping hot.

A quality flask is worth its weight in gold, lasts for ever as well.👍

HoldMyWine · 25/05/2026 11:52

I was going to suggest an insulated flask as well, better for the environment too.

TheHillIsMine · 25/05/2026 11:57

I never thought about the glove box being cold so will try that, thank you.

I do want something reusable and my son has suggested getting a soda stream so as to not have to keep buying plastic bottles of water, but I'm not keen.

@placemats, thank you and how did you know that's what I do? The irony is, I try not to drink too much so as to not need the loo while at clients but this weather..

All great ideas, thank you, can any recommend a specific one please? I'll also try freezing as long as they won't crack on defrosting..

I have a zip-around cool bag that’s just big enough for a 500ml bottle of water. It was a branded giveaway from the company.
Better for the environment to get a Sodastream and an insulated water flask IMO.

GloriousGoosebumps · 25/05/2026 12:01

If you’re happy to decant the small bottles of water, you could buy an insulated water bottle which can keep drinks cold for 24 hours and pour in the cold / frozen water. They come in a variety of sizes. Just make sure you buy one which is leak proof!

TheChiffchaff · 25/05/2026 12:04

I was going to say freezing but you can't really do that with fizzy water. I half fill water bottles with water and put in freezer. When I take them out I top up to fill.
My best water bottles are these. Totally leak proof, metal, no spouts or straws which are difficult to clean and no plastic.

Half of Australia has invested in Yeti products. Dh and Dd both have water bottles and apparently they work a treat.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 25/05/2026 12:12

The glaringly obvious answer is insulated water bottle or flask. Is there a reason why that is not suitable? (One big one or 2 or 3 smaller ones. Whatever suits.) Put pre-chilled water in, with ice cubes if you like.

And yyy to the sodastream - so much better than endless plastic bottles. I fill mine in the morning then chill it in the fridge ready to use during the day - you could do yours the night before ready for the morning to fill your insulated water bottle.

Badbadbunny · 25/05/2026 12:13

We just have a big cool box and pop water and other soft drinks in along with a couple of ice packs. Just part of our "go bag" when we go out for day trips etc along with some snacks, fruit etc in case we get stuck in a traffic jam for hours after an accident etc. Also helpful if we buy some fresh/chilled/frozen foods whilst we're out to pop them in the cool bag to keep chilled until we get home and they can go in the fridge/freezer. We keep the cool bag in the front porch as a reminder to pop in some ice packs to take out with us.

DandelionClockSeeds · 25/05/2026 12:22

Water bottles in fridge the night before.

Cool bag (the rigid ones are better, imo) and some freezer packs gor the car.

Apologies I just presumed.

tiramisugelato · 25/05/2026 12:24

Empty them into a Stanley cup or similar and put in the fridge the night before. I’m a dog walker and do this and my water is still cold by 2pm.

I have a soda stream for sparkling water as I wanted to reduce my plastic waste.

Anonomoso · 25/05/2026 12:28

I have a small insulated lunch type bag.
Fits in 6, when laid flat, 500ml bottles and in between each pair I use small ice packs.

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/05/2026 12:29

We have a standard size toolbox that plugs into a cigarette lighter. When we go on holiday with the car we use it for bottled water, sandwiches and a pre prepared meal for the first night in our self catering accommodation.

I like SHO insulated water bottles, and they come in lots of different sizes.

GasPanic · 25/05/2026 13:02

I would probably get still water and freeze it.

A few bottles together put in a small cool box would probably last for ages.

No help on the keeping things cool...

But i only drink sparkling water and got a sodastream about 10 years ago, still going strong and used many times a day. I just use it for plain water, no flavours etc.

Mine came with a couple of large bottles and some smaller ones. When is hot I'll make them up the night before and keep them in the fridge overnight. I suppose they could go on a cool bag in the car to help stop them heating up.

Sidebeforeself · 25/05/2026 13:06

I have two metal water bottles but when I’ve filled them with sparkling water they ‘explode” when you take the top off. It’s like the gas in teh water builds up and the top pops loudly and you get a bit of frizz spray. Wouldn’t the same thing happen with insulated flasks? Im watching this thread with interest as I only drink sparkling water

I do think you have to be careful.

I dont fill my insulated bottle to the brim but also it doesn't get jolted much which is probably quite important. Maybe ok on short steady car journeys. If I have a can of coke in the car for along time, I have learned to open the car door and hold the can out to open it....
