30c inside my house

It’s now 19c outside but it’s 30c in our bedrooms, we kept curtains closed after 11am and opened all doors and windows this evening. I’m fucking melting. Other than everyone buying air conditioning what can we do? My face is sweating, I need to sleep, up at at 0515

Well, there really is nothing you can do except for trying a fan, maybe with a frozen water bottle behind it. This is night one of maybe 5 and we'll soon be back to normal.

TheChosenTwo · 24/05/2026 22:39

It’s saying 28 in our bedroom, 26 for dc3 and dcs1 and 2 have bedrooms in the loft and I suspect they are around 30.
its perfect for me, I’d like it to be this temperature for longer, I only had my electric blanket on the lowest setting and will do tonight too, barely a whisper of warmth.
Dh is sitting in the cold tub in the garden (don’t worry, he’s not turned the bubbles on!), refusing to come inside until midnight.

LittlePinkWeed · 24/05/2026 22:41

Can you sleep downstairs tonight?

Do you have a loft hatch and openable skylight in the roof? Have them open throughout the day so that warm air is drawn upwards and into the loft.

too late for tonight but tomorrow fill a hot water bottle (with cold/room temp tap water, not boiled) and stick it in the freezer. cools your sheets etc down a treat to sleep. Also big bottles of ice in front of a strong fan is poor man's aircon. Sleep with just a sheet over you instead of a full duvet. Do you have a spare room/comfy sofa? If you can sleep downstairs or just not share a bed it will be cooler. But otherwise, as the pp said, just have to accept it for a few days.

😂😂 yes! But just on fhe lowest setting, it was on the highest until just a couple of nights ago!

JeopardyLeopardy · 24/05/2026 23:54

Hang up a damp towel somewhere, in front of an open window if you can. The heat used to dry the towel will evaporate out of the window and reduce the room temperature (slightly, but I think every degree counts in this weather!).

Bonkers!!!!

Turbo floor fan from Robert Dyas. Neck towels from Anazon. Cool packs in the bed. Black out blinds down all day in the bedroom.

Keeping curtains shut as much as possible is the generally best thing- I've done this for a couple of months now and my flat is considerably cooler all round.

Bonkers!!!!

It's not. Some people really suffer with feeling cold. MIL has this following radiotherapy for cancer. Can never get warm and cold is painful.

SunshinePlease24 · 25/05/2026 00:49

Move to Scotland OP 😉 I have woolly slippers on and a fleece over my pyjamas

BlisterNC · 25/05/2026 00:57

I’m in London, had my portableAC running earlier but have to turn it off during the night. It’s still 29.7° in my flat 🫩

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/05/2026 06:17

I put an extra large cold pack under my back or on my chest and torso as I don't have a/c either. The ones I have can be put into the freezer as well, stay cold for a very long time and are moldable but can go somewhat flat so easy to sleep on. They're meant to be used hot/cold for injuries, so they work very well. I also have tower fans in every room.

GethsemaneHall · 25/05/2026 06:47

I have just bought a massive Shark turbo fan thingy as my bedroom is always roasting. Tried it properly for the first time last night and I was somewhat chilly going to sleep 🥶
It was about £150 but it works so I can't complain (and cheaper than aircon!)
