How do you keep messy houses clean?

How do people with untidy houses keep them clean? Not a judgement just interested. My house is clean and tidy, not show room standards just nice to live in. I've been following a thread about friends judging a person's house. Loads of people say there house is messy but clean. How does that work? Do you move your stuff, then clean, then put back?
I'm not bothered how people keep there homes. I have an incrediblebly messy friend, I don't judge her I'm just always grateful I don't have to clean it.

I think they clean around the mess rather than move the mess, clean under it, then put it back.

Messy but clean or cluttered but clean, to me they are different things. Clutter cleaned around?

I'm messy as in I leave my clothes for a couple of nights beside my bed before putting the in the laundry basket and my makeup/hair stuff at my arse after getting ready. But the carpet is hoovered, bedside dusted, bed changed regularly once it's been tidied.

Bathroom sink and toilet cleaned daily but I leave my skin care products, tooth brush etc at my arse all day.

Kitchen is cleaned before every meal etc but I'm known to stack dirty dishes beside the sink rather than put in the dishwasher. Or I don't empty the dishwasher fully and use the stuff as needed.

Living room is hoovered and dusted regularly but I'll go to bed and leave the cushions & blankets all over the place and cups/glasses on the table.

So basically I'm lazy and messy, but it's clean. Funnily enough, car is spotless. Would never get out of the car and leave a coffee cup, brush crumbs off seats etc.

When I say “messy but clean”, I usually mean that I’ve done the deep cleaning (floors, bathrooms, kitchen), there’s no food or properly dirty plates left out and any spills are cleaned up immediately. But there is some clutter and maybe a cup or plate used earlier that day lying around, and I don’t always remember the dusting and cleaning things like windows or skirting.

Basically, my home isn’t a health hazard and there’s no reason for visits to find it gross. But it isn’t perfect either.

If you're keeping stuff up your arse all day, i'd suggest it's definitely not clean!!
