Anyone else need limits to stop endlessly checking Mumsnet threads?

I know I do. I open it for “just 5 minutes” and suddenly an hour has disappeared and I’m emotionally invested in a thread about someone’s MIL rearranging a dishwasher.

I’ve actually had to start writing myself a list of 4 tasks I have to complete before I’m allowed to look at Mumsnet again. Otherwise I just keep checking “one more thread”.

Please tell me I’m not the only one 😂

Yes. Just yes.

I banned myself this morning, then got into a heated discussion and now i'm back on.

Putting phone down now 🙈🙈

redboxerclub · 19/05/2026 19:39

Yes - The more you check the more you have the come back and keep checking! It’s a vicious circle

ha, and we expect u16s to accept a ban on social media!

Absolutely yes, although Vinted is taking over! The ladies at the PO are getting to know me very well!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 19/05/2026 19:48

Yes.

pegweg · 19/05/2026 19:51

I have just prised myself away to load the dishwasher and put it on. That gives me another hour to get distracted again 😂

Most definitely!!!!!!!

thinkingaboutipswich · 26/05/2026 23:44

Yes this is me. I have a limit of one hour on the app but I just ignore it. I’m addicted and over invested, but also I just learn so much on here.

I do have friends IRL and I actually have a senior level job too. I post much more on the weekend so bank holiday weekends are particularly active on MN for me!
I’m off for a couple of days for half term this week but I’m actually up working as I have loads to do and here I am on MN!

Fleetheart · 26/05/2026 23:48

There is an app called
Be Present, it is helping me!

thinkingaboutipswich · 27/05/2026 15:45

Hmm, just a few of us then…

I am making myself do tasks in between to make it a bit better!

I think the point is more that a ban is absolutely necessary as look what an addictive substance we are allowing kids to play with!

OP I’ve gotten rid of all social media and feel good for it, but MN remains…it may have to go too because I suffer with the same affliction.

Me too - I’ve deleted Instagram etc. only MN remains…

TwoFishBlue · 27/05/2026 17:18

Yup. Deleted everything and stay off everything successfully apart from MN. However, as @thinkingaboutipswich says, that is partly because I learn so much and it has been an invaluable resource for me over the years. I was just thinking about my HRT journey earlier today and thinking about how I have listened to (and implemented) a particular user's advice over the years and was imagining a conversation with my GP along the lines of "and you listened to some rando on the internet?" and I thought "but I have been looking at the advice this particular rando gives to others on the menopause boards on MN for a LOOOONG time and she clearly knows her shit, so yes."
