Is it feasible to install an Ikea kitchen in stages?

I'm needing to redo my kitchen

I want to rip it all out and start over

First, I'd buy the laminate flooring and store it away

Then, the kitchen. Now, i'd have to buy it from ikea. I think i can buy the base units and the dishwasher, from ikea, in one go

I'd buy the sink separately but at the same time

I'd put aside a weekend to rip everything out, lay the flooring and then assemble the base units and attach them to the wall. I'd put the dishwasher in place provisionally, knowing i'd need a plumber

the plumber would come out in the days after I've done this

A month or two later, i'd buy the matching splashback and countertops

Does this crazy plan sound at all feasible to anyone? 😄😄😄

I must sound like a nutter but I want to get this done and I can't afford more than a few hours labour from a plumber and then a splashback person months after

I'd use an airfryer and temporary oven whilst the kitchen is in the works

Why not save up until you can afford to do it all together?

And yes, your plan to install the base units "a month or two" before the worktops makes no sense.

Edited

I read that they cant be installed until youve put the base cupboards up? And then theres a wait to have them made? 😬

Can't wait, if I dont start, it'll never get done

So you don't sound like a nutter but wouldn't it be easier to buy it all at once and get it delivered? Or most of it anyway. And why would it need to be IKEA?

The guts of a kitchen are pretty straightforward. DH did most of ours while I was heavily pregnant, and I did the painting and tiling when I'd had the baby and could reach the back of the worktop again.

Stripping it out is not a huge job. See if you can sell or give away the units, buyer removes them. If no one takes them, no need to be delicate on disassembling them. It's much quicker to break them. Wear safety goggles and gloves. Then DH assembled the units a few at a time, in front of the TV after work, then took a weekend day installing them. It was a double galley kitchen which really lent itself to doing a few at a time, but I think your idea of assembling them for a kitchen guy to come and fit sounds absolutely fine. But I'd get them to fit pre-assembled units, sink and worktop all at the same time. Stand alone appliances would keep fitting costs down.

We did flooring after the units, then kickboards, splashbacks, paint.

Worktop is big and you can easily get it delivered. It needs to be stored flat. You don't need to get it from IKEA, there are loads of online shops. IKEA units are actually a little trickier to fit because they don't have a void behind for pipes etc to run. For this reason some fitters tend to fit them a few cm forward so you might end up needing a slightly deeper worktop.

Check out DIY kitchens too, brilliant quality and fully assembled.

If you are going to be without a kitchen for a while, consider buying or borrowing a plug in single induction ring, eg IKEA Tilreda (?). Some entire 4 ring hobs run from a 13 A plug although it's a bit of a compromise on power output.

@Koggs so sorry I didnt respond! I have checked out diy kitchens and I will price the two up!

This is very helpful thank you!

I honestly cant buy it in one go, and its got to get done

So i'd assemble and put in the dishwasher and then ask someone to connect it, put in and connect the sink and taps

I'd buy a cooker separately, and ive already got washing machine and fridge freezer

Lol.. I bought my kitchen from IKEA 5 years before I fitted it!! I'm fact they didn't even make the same model (but they have a secret warehouse with spares)... Just make sure all your walls are perfectly straight because they have no service gap at the back. One solution is to fit all the base units and do doors afterwards.

I'd do this, i'd get the frame in place, drawers, then get the sink done, as id need my sink 😭
