I was talking to dd2 and she mentioned that dcat came up to her with his paw up as he had a thorne in it. I said just like androcles and the lion and she didn't know what I was talking about

I do, but i had quite a classical education in some ways.

There's also Daniel in the lions' den and St Jerome also had a lion as his best mate after removing a thorn.

I'm not sure, it depends whether or not you were taught this kind of stuff - I think my parents taught it to me rather than my school, but I can't remember.
