Will UCL keep my daughter’s 2026 offer if A levels are delayed?

Pls can I have some advice . DD has been having a lot of health issues since last year and struggling with mental health . She has an offer from UCL for start in 2026 but we’ve decided she is going to take 2 A levels this year and one next year due to her health and not being able to manage all in one go . She is very hard working and worried about losing her offer . Does anyone know if uni would allow this and still agree to keep her offer if we email them explaining the situation or agree to give an offer next ucas cycle. She dosent want to reapply and this would cause lots of distress.

Simply ask for a deferred entry but like others have said, if three A Levels at once is too much, I'm not sure UCL is the place to be.. they are not that great at pastoral care.

She would have to reapply. Even if she asked to defer to 2027 entry, she would still be expected to meet the conditions of her offer this summer. If she can’t meet the conditions this cycle (because she isn’t taking all the exams), then she’ll need to apply again next year. Then it will very much depend which subject she’s applied for as to whether they would expect applicants to take all their A levels in one sitting or not.

thank you. Yes this is what I thought as well. Dd is v anxious that if she reapplies then she is less likely to or won’t receive offer again because of doing A levels in this way. If there’s no other option then we will just have to try and re apply and see what happens I suppose.

@ByGreatOliveHam You would get more up to date answers on the HE board. @poetryandwineis a former admissions tutor and would have very good knowledge about this dilemma.

Thank you for tagging me, @MeetMeOnTheCorner . I have PM’ed the OP.

One step at a time.
After exams speak to ucl.
But maybe she wont manage full time uni.
My dd had health issues and had to drop out yr 13 and then repeat yr13. She did get uni place and went but realialsed it was too much. She is now doing part time BSC with OU.
Your dd could do part time Birkbeck still central london.
But step by step. Get exams done first. Speak to school if she already been entered for allof them.

cestlavielife · 16/05/2026 22:34

Oh dd had 2 x ASlevels different subjects (= one ALevel) plus 2 x a levels taken 2 years later . Got high ranking RG offer. So taking exams different years is ok you can explain on ucas form (yes might need to re apply)..but speak to ucl after.
And if full time uni is not for her then there are other routes.take it one step at a time

Have you spoken to the school? What does your dd want to do? It seems very unlikely to me that if she’s got an offer of AAA and gets AAU they will let her in - and not really fair if they did. Has she revised and prepared for the exams and you are just making the decision not to do it today or is she not prepared?

She has prepared for all three subjects but her health has worsened a lot . Had an exam yesterday and went in but threw up numerous times before going in then went in and couldn’t stay so she left the exam as she was too unwell. She is going to withdraw from that subject and try to complete the exams for the other two A levels this year

Did school advise to withdraw? Surely better to submit medical reason?
