What age did/would you let your DC go swimming at the pool alone?

If they can swim, obviously.

Our local pool allows it from age 8.

What age would you let them go in alone (you would not be able to see them, but there are lots of lifeguards).

As both a swimming teacher of the SE stages and a club coach, I find the differences in expectations of children of the same age in the changing facilities hugely different between the 2.
for the stages swimming, parents will meet their children poolside, with the towel spread out ready to wrap them, all the way up to 10yo ish.
At club, where we take from 8yo, the children would be mortified if their parent went in the changing room with them.

I remember going with my friends during the summer holidays when I was 9/10, we also got the bus into town together.

I let my DC go together to the kids inflatable and disco session when they were 9/10. There were far more lifeguards than normal in the pool, and adults were not allowed to spectate.

My DC are older now, and I would probably say 11/12 was a good age to go alone. My area now offers free swimming to kids under 18 during the school holidays.
