Im i a very lucky position in that I'm potentially cod be offered 2 jobs. Both ft. Both similar money. Drawbacks- job1 is hybrid- 1 day at home, involvesa lots of drivibg around. Office is 10 minutes away. Job2 is remote- bit more responsibility. Job 1 coubcil. Job 2 charity.

Honestly not sure which i would choose. Obviously might not get either!
Dh wfh & we have a year 7 & year 5 child. So still some school drop/pick ups.
Which would you choose?

Would also consider the role mandate and satisfaction from it, job progression/stability and the pensions situation. Not all charities are equal - is this a well established one with solid grants / SLA with council etc, etc

I think it’s also really important to listen to your gut during interviews and how you ‘gel’ with the team/manager

Given your post is around hybrid/remote arrangements - does this matter most of all for you for now? Have you previously been remote and don’t want to give that up?

Not enough info.

Just on what you’ve said would choose the charity one as it sounds much more flexible and lots of driving and visiting different locations could be a pain.

But charity jobs can be short term and insecure, so if the local authority one offers better prospects of a longer contract, security, pension and benefits, 10 minutes away sounds OK.

Agree, the council one will offer you more security, and also potentially some staff perks eg discounts, parking, better pension etc. Also, once you are working for the council you might have future opportunities to move sideways or upwards in your role if you get itchy feet. Once your kids are out of primary it's quite common to get more time to think about career. None of these things necessarily apply to working with a charity.
However on a purely skill based level, please please choose the one that has the lesser requirement to write in full sentences!

Which one do you like the sound of most? They’re similar money but one has more responsibility, does the salary reflect the extra responsibility? Charities tend to be lower paid than public sector. Do you and your DH have workspace at home separate from each other or will you be balancing your laptop on the sofa while he has a home office - that will get old very quickly. Do you have a reliable car if you need to do a lot of driving?

Think about how the practicalities will work for you, are you currently doing all drops offs and pick ups, do you have childcare for after school while you and DH are still working? Which employer feels better, did you “click” with one more than the other at interview!
