I've been on a/l since Monday and am off till 26th. So why am I always ill? Eldest dd has the lurgy . I've resisted until now but now have fluish symptoms.
But every time I actually have time off im ill.
I have to take youngest to and from gcses as they won't go.
Dh now has lurgy so still walking dogs but sleeping the rest of the time.
I'm so tired.
I have to do everything ( except dog walks)
All I wanted was a break! Arghh

Sorry op, it always seems to be that way.
I think our bodies know when we just have to keep going, and then when you finally relax with your holiday it all comes rushing in.
Usually at the point that you have no backup support, or that you were so worn out already that it’s a final straw situation.

I’m sorry, it’s shit. Drug yourself up, stay in bed where you can, and get everyone else to pull their weight. This too shall pass x

Are you generally exhausted?

Its like your body knows a rest is coming and stops 'being strong'

It was definitely a thing when I taught: half-term lurgy.

On the upside, as I got older, say 55+, I got fewer colds and the holiday illness stopped entirely. It's a thing; statistically, you get fewer colds as you age.

google ‘vacation sickness’
something to do with the sudden drop in cortisol when you relax causing your immune system to fail.
I've had it for many years ( even though I don’t have a stressful job which they reckon is a big factor)
it’s become a running joke between friends and family that Stillfat is always ill when we go away… I’ve spent many nights alone in hotel rooms while everyone else goes out partying!

I think our bodies are so tense and full of adrenaline during working weeks that when we finally have time off, our bodies relax and then we get ploughed by illness.

I work in private corporate training, often 5 day training. So similar to a teacher but no holidays.
I've used my 'holidays ' for family stuff. Its exhausting.
Thankfully my kids are over 16 so it should be better.
But here I am physically taking my nd child to exams.

Every time - then obvs if I’m ill DH becomes sick… I’ve never been sick without him following me. But that’s a different story!

Yip teacher here, every holiday without fail. And yes I know we have the great holidays..but i genuinely do so little in them...if its a 1/2 week break I'll be in bed, if it's the long summer hols I'll do approx 2 weeks ill, 2 weeks ok, 2 weeks ill in anticipation!
