Anyone else finding that their hayfever is making them feel tearful and ill?

I just feel so unwell and fragile .
Maybe I've got a virus or something,

Does anyone else find that slight aches and pains are coming with this? Like the very slight aches and pains, you might get if you were coming down with something?

That was the main reason I thought I was coming down with something, but I'm not feverish or anything. I noticed it's better for a couple of hours after I take my antihistamine.

editing to add - I'm not someone who normally has aches and pains. I don't have any issues with that at all. I wondered if there's some kind of inflammatory response that's kicked off here.

Where’s everyone getting this injection from please?

Privately, it’s not available on the NHS. Husband just googled it and found one nearly by, expect to pay around £100/£120. Sadly I didn’t feel it did much for me, but husband said for him it was a total game changer.

The injection is no longer available on the NHS for good reason. They are clamping down in place advertising it for hayfever.
Try different antihistamines, nasal sprays such as Dymista, eye drops. It won't help this year but if symptoms are severe then look into immunotherapy. As well as the usual prevention things of wrap around sunglasses, Vaseline by nostrils to trap pollen, not drying clothes/bedding outside, keeping windows shut on high pollen count days, changing clothes and showering including washing hair when you come home on high pollen count days.

Hay fever injection: is Kenalog safe?

Some hay fever sufferers swear by a yearly 'hay fever injection', offered by some private clinics. But is it effective? And more importantly, is it safe?

I just googled and found a clinic, it was £65

DH is a pure snotty mess this year. Nothing less sexy. He got an updated prescription today hopefully it helps because I don’t love cuddling up to mucus man but I guess I did say in sickness and in health 🙄.

My neighbour looked privately and I think the manufacture has stopped so might be dependent on luck and area

It's never occurred to me to take the injection because it's never been that bad and to be fair it's not that bad now.

It's been really bad the last week

I wonder if that's grass pollen and tree pollen season crashing into each other

It's normally tree pollen that's the problem for me and I'm normally done by the middle of May. So I'm puzzled as to what to do next.

The last week has been like having a low-level virus all week - I can live with it, but it's definitely affecting my quality of life and I'm really keen for it to go away

The tearful thing is interesting because I have been feeling incredibly low, but I have so many things going on, I can feel that it's physical but now I'm wondering if it's related to hay fever, which is very surprising

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 15/05/2026 23:42

Mine is £60, I get it yearly. It’s changed formula this year but has still worked for me

Be aware though @Nitgel

Yes. Got the aches and pains. And no it’s not a cold. I almost wish it was a cold.

Ah well thank you dear nest of vipers.
The sympathy and understanding is much appreciated.
Woken up today with my face all hot and red, just to add to it all .
Tired ☑️
Grumpy ☑️☑️
Achy☑️
Burning itchy eyes☑️
Breathless ☑️
and tearful and stressy...maybe the physical symptoms of running nose and sticky eyes is tricking my mind into thinking I should be crying
I'm taking fexofidine but think I'll add another ah .
But it's a comfort to be reassured I'm not a wuss.

It is bad this year. I got the injection some years back and it stops me from runny nose, eyes and cough. But it doesn't stop me feeling exhausted, grumpy and aching all over. So the injection does help, but it isn't a cure.

EmeraldRoulette · 16/05/2026 11:55

Oh, so other people do get the aching all over

Not a hayfever symptom I ever had before but it makes sense with the inflammatory nature of it

Wow, I hope this goes away soon.

Best wishes to @limetrees32 and all others suffering.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 16/05/2026 12:00

I hadn’t realised about the tiredness, that makes a lot of sense!

Flannelfeet · 16/05/2026 12:00

Mine is horrendous this year and im on the strongest medication for it. I looked into the injection but im not sure if I will qualify as I have a low immune system. 😒

turkeyboots · 16/05/2026 12:03

I think spring is a bit later than usual and everything in giving off pollen at the same time. I have endless headaches and sore eyes which antihistamines aren't touching. Id added decongestant to my antihistamines and thats helping a bit.

MelOfTheRoses · 16/05/2026 12:17

I had a bit of a revelation in the night.

It is the end of winter, when vitamin D levels are low, I haven't been able to get out in the sun because of the pollen, the immune system will have been using up vitamin D during this long tree pollen season we have had.

Many of my symptoms relate to low vitamin D, which I have had before. Tired, cold, aching neck and hips and joints, and feeling really down.

So I got a vitamin D/K2 spray while I was in Boots.

Last time it took about 6 weeks of supplements. Fingers crossed the sun will come out and do its thing.

Try Hux D3 20,000 iu which you get over the counter or online. Mine was prescribed by the GP. As I was deficient I had to take 1 a day for about a week then just one every couple of weeks. Might work a bit faster as it's a much higher dosage.
