Pea-sized lump in lower back and worsening anxiety about it

About 6 weeks ago I found a lump under the skin in my lower back, about waist height, roughly 5cm to the left of my spine.
its about pea sized and can’t be seen only felt, it feels quite hard/rubbery, I think it moves very slightly but hard to tell.
it hasn’t changed and doesn’t hurt where the lump is, but the past week I have developed some lower back pain - but the pain isn’t exactly where the lump is.

im so worried about it, i suffer with terrible health anxiety and am thinking the worse, my anxiety stops me from seeing my GP in fear of being told bad news…stupid I know but it’s hard to explain.

i just want to know if anyone has had anything similar and what it turned out to be?

If it's bad news then it will be worse news if you don't go to the doctor!
No one can tell you what it is, but the only thing that's guaranteed is nothing will get better by waiting.

I’ve got a small one of these, it’s where the needle went for my spinal block when I had my 3rd degree tear stitched up. It fills up with grim stuff over the years and someone has to squeeze it!

Sounds like a lipoma - a small, completely harmless growth of hard fatty tissue. I've got dozens of the little feckers.

If one of your sons had this issue you know you would take him to the GP - you need to approach it in that way. Asking on here you'll get all manner of answers ranging from the benign to the serious and it won't help your anxiety. Get it checked out for your own sanity - because if you don't your mind will go to worse places because with health anxiety it is very natural to catastrophise, which ends up creating extra stress - which in itself can make you very unwell.
